My aim for this grow will be for it to cost me $0 other than cost of seeds.

Not much to see here right now. The containers are all salvaged material. The soil is homemade from a five-year composting project, which begins with loam clay soil and is composted with weeds, kitchen scraps, and horse manure. The seeds are placed in the middle and then I sprinkle a top layer with a sugaring of bag soil to cover (all containers are opaque plastic which I favor at this stage, I've drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. Other than seed cost, supplies are at $0, unless you consider the few ounces of bag soil I had laying around the garage).

    Germination rate was 100%

This is an English double dig. Some of my grow will go here, along with my spring tomato and pepper crops. You will notice the two trenches. The older fully composted materials are in the trenches ready to go for this year's harvest, the middle channel you will notice is raised. The middle section contains the newer composted material including grass clippings, weeds, kitchen scraps, and horse manure. The fence is primarily to protect from the deer.

The trenches get filled in with composted soil from middle. Sprouts go directly into the soil, no more transplanting for me this time--one and done.

    Begin training

Training continues. Began feeding with weed tea from a five gallon bucket. It consists of weeds from the garden, nettles, dandelion, and mustard, chopped up and pushed into the bucket half way, I add a shovel full of horse manure, and water. I let the bucket sit out in the sun for a few days stirring when I get the notion and that's it. Sometimes I'll add 1/4 cup of molasses but haven't done that this time.

More training. A few more applications of tea. You can see the difference in the Thai leaves vs. the Panama leaves. I'm going for full 70's bush here. I'll post a pic of the auto next time. It's budding, but it got hit with pests early on and as a result it got stunted.

  4. Forgot to mention this. Totally slipped my mind but it's a key part of my soil. I am a brewer and add all of the grains after the mash to the garden. It is a powerful amendment and it's one more reason for you to start brewing beer.

  5. This is a nice grow. I'm going to have to keep an eye on this one. I'm real interested in seeing how that Ace Panama develops. I lived in the Panama Canal zone for 3yrs and sampled some nice bud down there. Definably a trippy high and long lasting. Your organic grow should turn out amazing. Won't be long and those twisted sisters will explode. I too am using horse manure and molasses as well. I make a dark stanky tea and use it every time I water. Making it stronger every week.
What do you plan to use for flowering nutrients? If ya plan on making your own here's a link to a interesting list of NPK for Everything. Ya probably already have it but just in case. Later mate. Enjoy the grow.

  6. Thanks. I don't use flower nutrients. I have found no benefit when in soil. I use the same tea until harvest.

  8. Very cool! Do you have nutes from a precious grow going into this or seeing how they do with no money spent on them?

homemade nutes, it's a weed and manure tea. Recipe is above.

There is also the middle compost row that I believe benefits the surrounding rows of plants even before it's mixed in. Inside that middle row are hundreds of pounds of kitchen scraps, discarded brewery grains and waste, and weeds. Between the horse manure and the weeds I am giving the plants plenty of nitrogen. My stems are as thick as my lower leg.

  11. Hey I also am a brewer, why is it such a good amendment? Carbs? I would think most the sugars would be removed during the mash. Would appreciate your thoughts!

  12. It just composts up really nicely and is a source of nitrogen.

  13. IMG_20200925_163715545_HDR.jpg Unfortunately and not unexpectedly I've got some caterpillars. I've had to spend some money on parasitic wasps. Hopefully they are now doing their work and I won't have to step up to pesticides.

  14. Okay people. Had to use the Permethrin. Upon closer inspection I noticed some botrytis where those little bastards shit where they ate. Oh I hate you caterpillars with the white hot heat of Satan's seven suns. I pruned some buds where damage had been done and sprayed the fuck out of the rest of the plants. So much for my parasitic wasps. I just went nuclear.

  15. Just dealt with grey mold, it seems to always go for the fattest pretties colas. I feel for you!

  16. The Thai is over head height. The Panama is almost ready. I've been harvesting and curing some early as I've been cutting away at the mold. The smoke is fantastic. Earthy flavor, all around high, gave me the munchies something fierce, lots of THC. Old school weed is the best.

I call this one The Field of Greens.
