i usually use just water, but if you put in water and some lemon juice, it wont really change the taste, but if you lick your lips they taste like lemons.
The rare occurrence that you can get a urinary infection from drinking just bong water. Happened to someone I knew, and they didn't have much fun with that. Drinking dirty water is never a good thing, no matter how much you fool yourself.
I usually mix bleach and ammonia and then hold my hits for like a minute plus. You'll never get more stoned. But you ever wonder why almost every stoner out there says dont drink the bong water? k, apparently you didn't read that I use a percolator/ashcatcher/precoolerr on my bong. It filters out the carcinogens and shit, and obviously mountain dew isn't too dirty to drink. Your friend probably did it after the bong water sat around for a while anyways, which I never do. Have you ever made weed tea? Its pretty much the same thing except the carcinogens and tar of the smoke, which I filter out before the smoke reaches the dew.
An amazing substitution for bong water is water. Or more water. Or air, if you feel like hitting a dry piece. Other than that don't bother.
