In a recent announcement to NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, Rep. Dana Rohbacher (R-Cal.) described his battle with pain caused by arthritis, and his appreciation for medical marijuana products.
“I tried it two weeks ago, and it’s the first time in a year and a half that I had a decent night’s sleep because the arthritis pain was gone,” Rohrabacher stated.
Rohbacher is a senior member on the House Committee of Foreign Affairs, a part of the House Committee of Science, Space and Technology, and a supporter of a medical marijuana movement. One of the strongest conservative voices regarding the overhaul of cannabis, he has been known to be a part of hails to congress to consider the medical opportunities of cannabis, like this time in 2014.
“This is definitely the first legislator in Congress in at least 30-some-odd years who has acknowledged to using marijuana illegally,” the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws’ executive director, Alan St. Pierre stated in a recent interview.
Although legal for medical use in California, as well as the 24 other states that have some form of cannabis use permissions, the plant is still illegal federally. This is impressive to me. Not only because the Congressman is a conservative that is speaking out in support of cannabis, but also because it is a politician that admitted to actively utilizing cannabis in their everyday lives while in office. How many politicians can you say that about?
