Zippo......getting rid of the bad taste

Discussion in 'Other Smoking Accessories' started by Danonymous, Jul 18, 2010.

  1. I am planning on getting a zippo soon but I've seen a lot about them making bong/pipe hits taste bad. Since the fire burns on the wick instead of holding down a button for fuel like a bic, doesn't that mean the bad taste is coming from the wick? So couldn't you replace the wick they have in there with another kind that doesn't taste bad, like a beeline or something? (idk how fast those burn)

Just a thought, would this work

  2. its because of the lighter fluid, there is not control on a zippo like a bic has. the lighter fluid just seeps into the wick constantly.

so it would probably taste just as bad with beeline if you could even get it in there...

  3. beeline wouldnt work as the wick because it burns unlike the wick in the zippo. just use beeline by itself thats really all you need.

  4. It's the fuel. Zippos use a different fuel than bics. It's not going to taste good. I heard the zippo blu isn't bad though? not sure, there is a butane zippo lighter than shouldn't taste bad.

  5. It's the fuel. Bics use butane, zippos don't. And why would you replace the wick with beeline when you could just light the beeline with the zippo...

  6. yea everyone is right it is the fuel, but i wanted to add that i find very annoying trying to light a bowl using a zippo. idk i just dont like how they are designed its awkward. never tried a zippo blu tho

  7. there are zippo lighter-inserts specifically to light pipes

  8. i did not know that. thats kinda cool actually.

  9. They still taste just as bad thow. The only difference is that there's no holes in the piece where the wick is, allowing you to turn the lighter upside down.

  10. why use tane or light fluid? buy some fkn beeline and light that with the zippo? :confused_2:

You cannot replace the wick. Zippo's have special wicks with metal integrated in them so they don't over heat and hold a flame.
    Its the fuel.
I hear that clear soot free lamp oil is tasteless.

You should try beeline. That is best.

But they have Zippo inserts that work a lot like those torch lighters but fit perfect into a Zippo. They are cheaper than a Zippo Blu. And you can insert them into your favorite Zippo. You can refill them and everything so their good from what I hear.

Heres a link to a YouTube video by a Zippo guy, CutleryLover. He's pretty smart about Zippo's.

    Hope I helped.

  12. I've read somewhere on here that if you light it for 8 seconds then light the bowl there is no taste. Apparently it's a "cigar smokers trick" that zippo has.
If anyone has a zippo on hand, give it a try and let us know!

I would do that, but unfortunately I don't notice any major taste difference between my zippo and my scripto, I guess it is.. (I like doing things differently, no bic for me) Of course one possible reason I don't have a bad taste with the zippo is because I don't put the flame to the herb, I hold it away from it, and breath in to draw the flame to the herb. Not sure if that would make a difference or not. Another reason is I am always using either a bong, or bubbler.

Honestly, I bet that is a bunch of nonsense though. The same "trick" works for matches too, apparently.

  14. Don't smoke bud with a zippo

  15. I've skimmed past the thread, but zippos aren't good for smoking. Saw a few people saying it is the lighter fluid, which is true. It tastes waxy. That, and you can;t angle the flame, it only ever burns up.

I saw someone mention a zippo blu. They have one for $110au at a local tobacconist. I wouldn't mind one, I've gone through countless $7 jet flame lighters. Be nice to have a life time guaranteed one.

  16. Not only does that fuel taste bad, it's also a hydrocarbon. That means it causes cancer. Don't inhale zippo flames.

  17. Butane ( bic lighters) is hydrocarbon also
Butane. Butane, either of two colourless, odourless, gaseous hydrocarbons(compounds of carbon and hydrogen), members of the series of paraffinic hydrocarbons

  18. Can you fill up a zippo with overproof rum or something not petroleum based?

  19. This thread is 8 years old..

Use ligther fluid to refill a Zippo lighter.

You could have also googled the question instead of bumping an ancient thread lol
