how would a plastic bottle be better then just wood? have you ever used a wood pipe? it tastes just fine idk how a plastic bottle would increase the taste.
He said the water helps, not the plastic. Water may filter out some taste of a dirty wooden pipe. When a wood pipe is new it shouldn't taste too bad but the hit in any pipe is going to be harsh.

Hitting out of the wooden pipe itself is just fine, tastes exactly like a glass piece would. Tobacco has never been smoked out of it thank god. I hardly ever use the pipe because i enjoy smoother, cooler, an bigger tokes from the bong. And actually i prefer this wooden piece over any simple glass spoon, due to the ash catch and wood makes for a surprisingly good heat absorber Again, it tastes just fine. Glass bongs are nicer but honestly you cant tell much of a difference unless youre really trying too. All my homeade bongs are 100% permanently airtight. I repeatedly heat up the tip of a paper clip to melt a perfectly round hole slightly smaller than the pen tube, then chew the end of the pen tube to make it fit into the hole and after that its a pretty tight fit all the way in. I also usually wrap it (the pentube) in 1 ply of electrical tape just to be sure. After all that if i want a new down stem i just slip in a new pen tube with some tape. DONE. And back to smoking.
I was under the impression that all of the glass pipes I have seen in gas stations are hand made. I know other stoners who blow pipes, and they sell all of their pipes to gas stations for really cheap. Nothing fancy, they are the kind of glass pipes you'll see for under 30 bucks. And sure, a 500 dollar bong might be extremely pleasurable to smoke from, but any glass pipe will do the trick.. I just don't see myself being able to justify half a grand on a glass bong. my 50 dollar bong was 1/10th the price and is awesome.
