When did DIY smoking tools stop being ok?

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by mystic1, Mar 4, 2011.

  1. I have been smoking off and on for 20+ years. On this site and others I have seen a growing trend to stop people from wanting to make there own pipes/bongs/vaps.

I just got done reading a thread about someone wanting to make a light bulb vap and others where making fun of him for not wanting to drop $100+ on a comical unit. I don't understand this.

The coolest smoking devises I remember where home made from my first pipe (small brass fittings), to my old roommates gravity bong (2L bottle and a 5g bucket), or my x girlfriends little honey bear bong with the bowl in the belly of one of those little bear shaped honey containers. The list goes on.

So if I decided to grab an apple to smoke out of (Yes kids we used to smoke out of out fruit) or make one of my Copenhagen can pipes will I now be laughed out of the pot community?

  2. fantastic.

  3. I think forums have a lot of negativity in general, no matter what you're talking about.

  4. I have great glass, and lots of papers. But sometimes I just feel like ripping a gatorade bottle. Part of it is nostalgia, but my homemade pieces hit well too.

  5. DIY smoking tools for the most part aren't efficient and don't compliment good weed very well

  6. There is the safety issue of smoking out of things not meant to be smoked out of.

  7. Right I've seen kids straight inhale plastic fumes...
Idiots, I know, that's why I stick to my many trusty glass pieces.

  8. While you will get negative feedback no matter where you go there is still a good bit of people that will make home-made pipes and enjoy them.

As long as you are not smoking out of aluminum foil or anything like that.

  9. when i found out they damage my already retarded brain even further, i decided I should buy some glass haha:hippie:.

  10. There is no way in hell I would personally go out of my way to smoke out of a home made piece rather than my glass, but im sure not gonna tell anybody else how to live their life.

That one dudes homemade disk perc'd tube posted a few days back was pretty legit tho.

  11. Its the materials involved I believe. Kids here use plastics and glue that add harmful shit to the smoke

  12. They aren't bad, they usually hold you off before you buy yourself a good piece.

  13. exactly

  14. When the cancer movement got out of control and everyone started freaking the fuck out.

  15. "Back in MY day we only smoked out of wooden pipes!"

"Back in MY day we only smoked joints!"

"Back in MY day we only made our pipes out of plastic!"

Times change. Glass is cheap, it's not hard to find, go out and buy it. It's better for your health, its better for smoking out of, for godsake stop being 90 year old grumpy men complaining about kids these days.

    You old farts.

  16. I am literally ROLLING on the floor, laughing my ass off.

I think the problem here is generalizations. I personally have no issues with homemade pieces. Honestly every now and then I get a hair up my ass and build a piece myself.

The problem lies in the use of hazardous materials namely plastic glue and aluminum foil. Now do I give a shit if some 14 year old kid goes brain dead from huffing plastic fumes? For all intensive purposes no. However, these thing being used by younger generations can only draw bad attention to something that we are finally breaking the taboo.

Secondly, smoking from glass is a far more enjoyable experience 9 times out of 10. I say this cuz some dude posted a disk diffuse piece he made at home that had more diffusion than some high end stuff I've seen. The downstem was a PLASTIC pen that had been taken apart and repurposed so it's probably not too safe, still a nice piece.

Basically, make your piece just be mindful of what comes into contact with heat and what potential fumes you could be inhaling.

P.S.- please no "your already smoking what's the big deal?" We all know we're damaging our bodies but personally I'd like to save face wherever I can.

  18. yeah, DIY smoking tools are still ok, but use as many glass parts as possible. avoid flame contacting any plastic (or certain metals like aluminum) parts and your homemade tool should serve you well.

  19. diy was ok back in the day when all there was swag and stress,

    but now'a days

if given a choice why would you want to put high grade stuff in anything besides high grade glass?
