What can make bubblers crack if they don’t drop

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs, Bubblers, Water Pipes' started by Mookie0608, Feb 21, 2020.

  1. I got a fairly new cheech bubbler. Purchased it brand new not even 2 weeks of use and I noticed cracks in certain places. I first noticed the first one maybe 2 weeks ago and assumed it was maybe water some how making an illusion but I ran my fingers down the outside of glass tonight and it does not leak but feel the crack. The big one is on the inside of glass. Can hot smoke cause it to crack if it’s truly over priced crap glass? Can’t figure out why there’s cracks that I did not notice at the shop and I have never dropped it or banged it. Never even got to clean it yet. And I paid $150-$160 for it was originally $175. Love it could hold a little more water but I’m happy with it up until the cracks started popping up growing bigger.

  2. Going from hot to cold rapidly? Just a guess.

  3. Any type of rapid heat cycle can cause glass to crack/cracks to expand. Normal operation of bongs shouldn't cause cracks though, so it sounds like you got some shit glass. What probably happened is that the cracks were already there when you bought it, they were just too small to notice. I'd clean it and take it back. The shop owner should be able to recognize the difference between cracks from flawed glass and cracks from abuse, so if he's honest he'll help you out.

No refunds. No such thing exists where a brand new glass piece can be sold damaged. How ever a silicone bubbler I can purchase for a discount as an alternative or just accept it like everyone else that glass don’t always last long. could last a week could last 10 years but smoking especially pot through glass will damage it especially if I smoke 6-10 times a day/night the glass breaks down even faster unless I’m a fan boy of roor and the scam they run claiming their glass don’t break. I was told all glass breaks including bullet proof if it can’t break its not real glass. But if I want something that will be more durable I can spend the thousand dollars and get a thick piece with many stages of filtration and coolant. Was told the piece I got was not bad but there’s better options and if you really want cool filtration and a nice sturdy piece you have to be willing to pay the money.

  7. It's unfortunate that you weren't able to get a refund, but believe me, it's completely possible for a piece to be sold with tiny cracks. Cracks don't just spontaneously generate (unless you drop it of course). They form from tiny flaws going though heat cycles. That smoke shop owner either doesn't know what he's talking about or he played you on purpose (probably the latter). Either way, I wouldn't go back there. I mean hell, my mom has 40 year old glass baking dishes that are still fine to this day. Glass doesn't just break like that.

  8. There glass is all expensive even the few smaller bubblers they had hammer style by I think monarch and the brand 420science sell grav they were trying to get $75 for them but pretty sure they only go for about $25 online for grav at least.

I’m going to try and upload some pictures the big cracks that keep growing are all in the inside the only outside crack is split perfectly where the 2 pieces went together I think.

honest to god though between 2 bubblers I got from there and a dispensary my cheap glass I got from a discount tobacco store for $15 lasted longer and did just as good as a job. Remember my first bubbler I just got home set it on my marble counter top and didn’t even think I set it down that hard and the bottom shattered. The new $175 piece seems to get worse the more I use it just taped it up too see if I could get it to last a little bit longer. Jinxed myself last night it finally started leaking lightly smelling everything up and I never lit it last night was getting ready to set it down loaded a bowl and realized the water sitting on the table. The one I got from gas station I no longer have But I dropped that in concrete from being stupid and it out off all 3 I had survived with just a little scratch. Go figure the cheap glass of all 3 is the one that survived an actual fall from 4-5 feet.

  9. The biggest problem is he was not there the day I shopped there. He was already upset that the lady working there who I think was his daughter gave me an attitude just for being there.

I told him the same thing though you mentioned and he said well keep in mind too because I mentioned I saw videos on YouTube about roor glass being indestructible and he said there all fake roor glass breaks very easily you can’t run it over with a car and it doesn’t break and you can’t smash it against the ground and not have it shatter into a million pieces roor just has good marketing and the money to do their trick photography glass is glass there’s always a way to break it. You can rob a bank shoot up the teller window and just richochet with a hand gun you shoot it with a high caliber bullet it will go right through. No glass is indestructible some glass is just a lot tougher than others. Some people like oldschool potheads prefer artwork and quality over durability.

  10. Yup, most of mine were about 13 quid from alis cave.
    Does the same job man.
A pink brick is still just a brick. :)

  11. I bet the guy down the street will just give me a bubbler half priced. might be cheap but when I got the last bubbler from him he gave me free glass screens and gave me a bunch of papers but only charged me a dollar for the 1 3/4 pack. And was like what ever man I don’t care about a couple bucks you shop here enough nobody gives out freebies anymore for customer appreciation and when they do it’s always something that should be free anyways. When I got a bong from him awhile back I didn’t even expect him to give me a free spoon with it but he was like here buddy take this too no charge please don’t argue I don’t want your money have a nice day. He’s always asking how I’m doing when I go in.

  12. The only ways it would have cracked without being dropped is if there were already small cracks to start with, or from having the glass go from hot to cold (or vise versa) too quickly as others mentioned.

For example, did you leave the piece outside/in a cold garage and then smoke out of it right away? Or rinse it with hot water and then put in cold water right after? That could cause cracks.

I've also never heard of roor claiming their glass is indestructible, they simply use quality boroscilicate glass instead of the cheap glass that china uses, as well as usually being a lot thicker, so yes a 9mm roor wouldn't break as easily as a lot of other pieces. But that goes for many other companies too.

And whatever he told you about smoking making the glass "break down" is BS, you can use the same piece for decades and it'll still be like new if it's cleaned and taken care of.

  13. Lots of shops dont offer refunds on used glass.

  14. Yeah, and lots of shops are also scummy. In any other line of business, if your product broke within a few weeks of normal use, you'd take it back, at least assuming you have half a backbone as a consumer. Bongs should be treated no differently, and any smoke shop owner that suggests otherwise is feeding you a line. Find a new smoke shop OP.

In any other business you're not buying paraphanalia to smoke drugs out of. Lots of types of budiness' have "all sales final"polices. Cannabis is legal here and even really nice head shops usually dont take used merchandise back. Once you use it, you own it. The buyer should check out the piece first not down the road when who knows what happened. Has nothing to do with having half a backbone, lots of products are sold with no returns.

Lol you must be 1 billy bad ass to be able to over right stores policies and sometimes even law..lol

Hes going to have to check with the store but if they say no theres nothing he can do, it doesnt mean the shops scummy, it just means thats the business. Neither you nor me knows that particular head shops policies or local laws. We don't even know if he has his reciept or any proof he bought it at that head shop. We dont even know how long he exactly had it. Something bought yesterday and something bought a month ago sn6d used for a month is a whole different story. Anything could of happened in that time. Business' dont stay in business by making bad decisions. You obviously have never been in business of your own or you were a door mat type owner that got walked all over by billy bad ass customers...lol

  16. Yeah I won’t be going back. I’m going else where. I wasn’t allowed to touch it or look at it. Usually when the owners there he goes into detail and makes sure your happy before he goes through with purchase. The girl working there doesn’t want to be there and wants you to leave ASAP and won’t let you touch anything so it doesn’t break. But yeah no refunds and that’s bs. I think the owner is trying to stay in the good side of the state. I think he wants to eventually start a dispensary. Even when he was selling records and tapes he was selling bongs and shit and something went down but I’m sure you can imagine what really was being sold out of the store, but I was told the same thing it’s technically not allowed to accept returns. It’s so messed up you can still get arrested if you walk out of a dispensary with a card if the feds want to be dicks. Sorry if that words not allowed. I talked to a glass blower though and even he said try to take it back intentional damage from dropping it would be obvious some who are not supposed to accept returns will do something like an even exchange or store credit so it doesn’t show up as an actual return. I can go get it fixed by the glass blower but his advise was to either use duct tape or go buy a new piece it honestly would probably be cheaper. The cheap Chinese gas station pipes work just fine for my purpose.

ohh and it hasn’t been left outside I smoke inside out of a window. Use cold water. Some times things spark a lot in the bowl but that’s just the stems and seeds I’m pretty sure if. Guy did offer to give me a discount if I buy another piece but think I’m going to stick to the local discount tobacco shop or just order something off 420science. I still got my bong just don’t like it. Not as easy to smoke out if a window without smoking creeping in.

  17. You'll be hard pressed finding any head shops that excepts returns after that amount of time especialy a used piece

  18. The superiority of expensive glass yet again proving itself

  19. Sometimes leaving them out somewhere to freeze and thaw could crack them. Or putting warm water in to a cold bubbler.

  20. You are getting scammed at that place fyi.
