OP has a legitimate question, if you're someone who grinds up a lot of bud but doesn't dip into kief often, then the consequences of dropping the bottom piece of the grinder are quite bad. To answer your question though, take an old salt shaker (preferably clear glass) and wash it out thoroughly and then place kief in there ready to be sprinkled.
the kief is designed to stay in the kief catcher, if i were you i would just keep it in there because you probably run more of a risk of loosing some when your moving it and storing it somewhere else than you do just leaving it but do whatever you want

Easier said than done when the kief catch is filled to the brim on an already shallow catcher. I've lost lots of kief before from a stoned mistake picking it up and it slipped dumping it all over my leg. Personally I feel I am clumsy enough to warrant using a closed container separate for my kief.

What if he wants to carry his grinder around in his pocket? the kief in the bottom could come back through the screen and be lost if the top came off, or what if he wanted to lend it to a friend and not lend the friend his kief? Why MUST he store it in the grinder? I always transfer my kief to a container to separate it by stain if I want and to keep it safe. I have these little screw top cases that the magic flight launch box grinders come in that are about the size of a quarter and are perfect for holding about 2gs kief. I have a kief box so I use them allot. I think you can get them individually on the mflb site.
Yes because we all know kief is man made, and some guy hundreds of years ago spent days trying to figure out the best way to shape it so it will stay in the fruit of the plant he named the grinder.
I would stick with glass! Is there a herb or large health food store near you? They often sell small salve jars for a buck or so. I get my brown tincture bottles from the health food store. Check the thrift stores- you never know what you will find! I have a tiny canning jar that holds about 3/4 of a cup. Any small jar that held food is good (baby food jars, a jar of mushrooms, etc) Check the cosmetics and "travel-size" sections of the Dollar store. They have small bottles and jars sometimes. Check ebay. You might find something really cool to keep your kief in! Or run a search for "buy cosmetic jars"- I did and grabbed the first one that had a fair-looking selection and no minimum purchase! For a real answer, dont open your keif catcher until your ready to smoke?? lolololol why would you open your keif catcher to just move it? just let that shit pile up, if you collect to much, your one of those Sand bottle, some people collect sand from beached they go to, works perfect and when full, it looks liek you went to Kief Beach
my friend collects kief all the time and he usually just keeps it right in his kief catcher or just puts it in a pill bottle or he has this tiny little gray capsule thing i don't even know what it's really met for but he puts it in there a lot too haha. and he's never had a problem dont think it really matters what you put it in as long as it doesn't find a way to spill out of it
