Started a new grow after a few year hiatus while moving from one place to another. I set up in a 6x4x6 shed in the back yard, removed the floor for capillary contact with the bags, mulched the floor to hopefully help keep any extra warmth through winter but to also break down and begin making the actual grow room floor nutrient rich for future grows to feed off via capillary contact. Alas... the problems are starting already! We’re under a LED Fluence spyder 2p set up. organic soil- a mixture of happy foot, Malibu compost soil and compost, worm castings and mycos no teas yet, but planning on some teas when the plants are past this stress point and stacking up buds. recently flipped these teens to 12/12 Loads of stretch initially then some light discoloration and now most are giving a nitrogen toxicity claw it seems. Other options are too cold, too much water, too much relative humidity. Sorry for the weird start to this journal haha, it’ll turn around I’m sure as I get used to indoor gardening. any suggestions appreciated, lmk if you have any questions about anything!
Due to the size I’d have needed a few heating mats, decided to just put a radiator I had sitting in the garage in. Need to get a timer on it, but so far so good- 48 hours after putting it in they’re already looking much better and are springing into stretch.
Your soil mix looks to me to be a little heavy. What kind of temps are we talking about? You could alway lift the pot a few inches and keep in a saucer, that might alleviate the ground as a potential problem of cold roots. If it were me I would be looking veg for a while longer. How many watts are you pulling from the wall? Sent from my iPad using Grasscity Forum
Mi Soil is a mix of baby bu soil and compost, happy frog and some worm castings. 3 part happy 3 part bu and 1-1 compost/castings. Just top dressed with fish bone meal too- will be doing malt barley top dress when I get it too. I figured with a good mulching on the ground it would help keep any warmth in the ground where it is- capillary contact has always made a big difference for me growing in bags, figured it would be the same “indoors” with a good soil floor agreed definitely could have used more vegging to fill out the space- but summer harvest is dwindling fast so figured I’d flip these girls and start vegging out a few new plants to switch in when the current flowering girls come down. Definitely getting too late to revert without weird issues/stress. Definitely flowers forming. And I actually have no idea exactly the watts- the light has a dimmer and I’m barely at 38% power. Without C02 apparently I’ll never be able to truly use all 100% power of the light either. I’ve been bumping the lights up every day waiting for the day they taco or begin to bleached heater and dehumidifier made a huge difference for sure, every day since they went in they look a bit happier.
Pulling up a seat too. Love fluence LEDs. I run 2 spydr 2x and love them. Plants look like the cold is pissing them off if I threw in my 2 cents. They still look good though.
My current veggers are outside as I've been gone for a week. Let me track down a shot of the flowering ones. Oct 24th so 10 days later then I like to set out. Nov 18th Couple more out in the yard. @Wavy Didn't you have like a 1000 watt hung outside to veg the whole yard under? BNW
Haha yes when I was doing the greenhouse 16’x8x8 I had a 600w to keep the whole thing in veg while things bushed out. Your lard looks bustling as always, forever an inspiration!!
I agree, it's not that they look bad but they don't look lush either. Something is keeping them from being fuller and less stretchy. I would have lack of light, cold, not enough drainage or soil not hot enough. I'm nobodies expert though, those are the things that just went through my mind.
This past year has been a rollercoaster for me as we are doing far less cycles between the grow site and the cabin with longer stays away from the grow so it's had to be semi autopilot and depending on others to water when I'm missing. With my grow buddy TTS gone and moved back east I've talked the gardener into weekly watering as he's there to mow anyway. Can't ask them to do more then drag the hose around once a week and give things a drink. That means I can't use the veg shed full of hot lights as they'd dry, fry and die if I'm not checking every day or two. With outside vegging at this time of year it's slow growing and not up to my usual performance. Think I'll start another round of seeds this coming week. I'll do it in numbers if I can't do it in size. BNW
covid changed everything homes. we're in a different place now, just like after 911. but you know all that. It so hard to get back into the routine. Thanks to god you have a cool gardener.
you ain’t kidding, everyone’s rhythms have been upset. and wish I could have my gardener take care of my stuff haha, he’s a bit too trimming happy with everything You say just water something and you come back to a half size plant... I keep him to the front of the house with the perennial CA natives, minimal work and they just keep exploding back haha. not too much change since the last time I posted the grow... here’s some shots of summers harvest- definitely not my best.. but gave me half a pound of very smokeable bud- also pulled another runt down for harvest yesterday. Pics of that one soon.
Well, I have no idea what power to run the dimmer switch with these spyder 2p lights, I’ve just been bumping it up a point or two every day waiting for any sign of stress or bleaching, so far so good at 47% power Plants are developing flowers and still stretching up quite a bit.
... I really am gonna try to get some pictures in the morning, sugar leaves are surprisingly coated - I mean I’m just not used to seeing this kind of sugary ness ever on my outdoor plants, especially not this early.... now to just get climate and soil dialed in. But that’s really what this first season is working on. And it’ll get easier as we move into spring, summer is a different story, thankfully the lights run super cold, but hope the shed doesn’t get too hot
