Alcohol evaporates at around room temperature, heating it up would cause the alch to gas out leaving mostly water.
LMAO!!! OP doesn't have a clue does he? Yes alcohol will evaporate and most of all........BOOM!!! You is on fire.....
I have heard of people doing this. More specifically for getting reclaim out of rigs. Not sure why everyone thinks you're gonna explode, or how it's gonna evaporate and become water.... Microwave it for like 10-15 seconds. Just pour what you need into a coffee mug or something. As long as it's not pressurized (in a sealed bottle) you should be fine. Yeah I was watching you tube and this guy heat up an alcohol but didn't say how he did it. Besides, I would ask here first before I proceed. It sounds scary but I'll try 10 seconds, and make sure wifey is not home.
The easiest and safest way to heat up iso is in what they call a hot water bath(aka double boiler) you get a glass/plastic container for your iso and then bring water to a boil in a kettle or pot, then put the container of iso I to the hot water and the water will heat the container, but it will start to evaporate, that also how people get most of the butane outta BHO if you don't have a vacuum purger! And it would prob help if you put it Into your bong and do that bath as it heats up the resin and breaks down easier. However using any solvent is dangerous and should be used with caution and common sense, and common sense say don't do It unless absolutely last resort, even then I still don't recommend it
It is perfectly safe to microwave rubbing alcohol for under ten seconds. Just be careful of microwave power and how much alcohol you use. Once you know your right settings you'll be fine. I've been doing it for years to clean pieces and extract reclaim.
Boil it on an open flame stove. Make sure to splash a little around. No.....DON'T do that. Alcohol is flammable and should not be heated up before cleaning your piece. Use scalding hot water to rinse.
I heat up about a half cup of alcohol for 25 seconds in the microwave. Thats the only way I can clean my rain drop rig. It works incredibly and you don't have to use any salt. Hardly any evaporates in the heating process because there is a high volume. If alcohol evaporated as quickly in high volume as you all seem to think, wouldn't your bottle of alcohol be empty within days of you opening it? It's perfectly safe as long as it is not sealed. It gets my rigs cleaner than when I used just salt and room-temp alcohol.
Don't heat it up. Rubbing alcohol and sea salt, kosher salt would work better, will clean your pieces great. Shake it up real good and they come clean as a whistle. May have to do it twice if there's a lot of resin buildup. Just rinse and you're good.
I just tried it and it’s pretty safe. I did 12 sec with 5 sec intervals in “half" a coffe mug until it Started steaming and I took it out, poured it in a measuring cup and then poured it down my stem. It didn’t do much for me but mine was 70%
You're risking inhaling more vapor you don't want to and burning yourself with it. Maybe it works better but I'd rather have my piece a little less clean than take that risk.
It's moronic in the first place. Putting a flammable chemical in the microwave is straight up retarded. Good luck!. This thread is from 2014 though so he most likely already burned down his place....
Alcohol being a polar solvent is not best suited for the purpose. A nonpolar solvent should be used instead, EG acetone, carbon tetrachloride, or ether.
