Does anyone know if TSP can be used for cleaning bongs. This stuff can burn your hands and is very powerful, it is primarily used for removing the outer layer of paint. It is also meant for hard surfaces. I was thinking it could be watered down and used to clean your bong.. If anyone has any knowledge regarding this please do share! http://ec-images.acehardwareoutlet.com/120/products/12590.jpg
i've used tsp in a number of applications and i wouldnt use it your bong. if you really need to use some chemicals, grab the old salt and iso(propyl alcohol) or get some oxy clean
I don't really know that it would hurt the glass, but it sounds like you'd have to clean it after cleaning it just to make sure you aren't inhaling that shit. Are you not having luck with iso/salt?
Oh yeah good point, hah thanks for lookin out for me. Well, i have been using iso/salt for a while, cleaning my bong every few weeks. But it is a bubble bottom style GonG and there are yellowish streaks on the upper area of the bubble.. any ideas? I dont really want to dish out the cash for formula420 or stuff like that
Hmmm... I've always just used the iso/salt method myself, but that is a problem... I wouldn't want to dish out the money for a name brand cleaner, either. I have no idea how well it would work, but you could always try some household cleaners, like white vinegar, or maybe lemon/lime juice or something? Maybe vinegar with salt to give that extra abrasiveness? I don't know, it's possible that might not work any better than isopropyl, but I always hear that vinegar is a good cleaning agent. (granted, you'd have to do a lot of rinsing, or maybe a second light cleaning afterwards, because vinegar smells like ass. )
Yeah haha, ill just give some house-hold products a run, and then share my findings. Thanks for all the insight!
i have use dishwasher soap at first then clean it with iso and salt then i wash it one more time with some windex. that usually always seems to get my glass pretty damn clean
Paint remover is very strong. I dont reccomend using it. It burns your hand, imagine what it would do to your lungs. I dont think it would be washed out of the bong completely and when you use the bong, you will inhale some chemicals.
OK so Im a little anal about how clean my bong is before I smoke with my friends. With that being said iso+salt just doesn't cut it for the bottom of my bong. It builds up a grime that just wont come out. My method is to first run hot fucking water. We are talking about a temperature you don't want to touch its so hot. Might need to turn up your water heater. Then once the bong is to the point I don't really want to hold it any longer. I grab this rubber heat glove for the oven to hold it and have a good grip, Ill then proceed to do the Iso+salt. I then get out my handy pipe cleaner and bend it into to the bottom of the bong and have at the grime. The combination of hot water and pipe cleaner have allowed me to get that brand new look every day.
How much salt are you using? The bottom of the bong is the part I've never had any problems with. I think I use more salt than a lot of people, though. I use a somewhat small amount of iso and then pour in enough salt to make the mixture pretty murky and thick looking. I've never had a problem cleaning out the bubble bottom on my bong this way, and it's gotten very, very dirty before. The hot water seems like it would help a bit, though. With the stuck-on resin at least.
Hydrogen peroxide and baking soda, then followed with 3:1 vinegar water. i heard this from my stoner buddys dad.
About the amount where the bubble get significantly hard to see into once shaken, with a small pile sitting at the bottom. Ive also tried grunge off but it seemed to work like iso+salt. I have even warn off part of the lux label on the down stem due to my efforts. Edit a little more background. I regularly use hot water in the bottom of my bong. I also use carbon filter and change out the carbon once it starts sticking together.
i've cleaned a very very dirty and grimey pipe, very nasty... with tsp. I soaked the pipe for 45min-1hour, (in about a 10:1 solution of water to tsp), and the thick tar-resin that coated the inside of the piece flaked off in clean chunks from the glass using a paper clip, restoring it as new. The piece does not feel any less smooth as before neither does it look dulled. Just rinsed it for 5 minutes in hot water after the clean, dry hit it and could of sworn it was a virgin piece, absolutely no "chemically" taste... Just needs a good long rinse! Oh, and btw, most name brand cleaners are just salt+alcohol+orange fragrance. Never had 100% success with the epsom and alcohol solutions... Edit: I decided to wiki tsp ( trisodium-phosphate ), and found this "Cleaning The major use for trisodium phosphate is in cleaning agents. The pH of a 1% solution is 12, and the solution is sufficiently alkaline to saponify grease and oils. In combination with surfactants, TSP is an excellent agent for cleaning everything from laundry to concrete driveways. This versatility and low manufacturing price, made TSP the preferred basis for a plethora of cleaning products sold in the mid-20th century. TSP is still sold, and used, as a cleaning agent, but during the late 1960s in the United States,[citation needed] government regulators in seventeen states determined that overuse led to a series of ecological problems.[3]" - wikipedia @ ]Trisodium phosphate - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia ok ok ok, and then it says later on: "Food additive Trisodium phosphate is approved as a food additive in the EU.[7] [edit] Exercise performance enhancement Trisodium phosphate has gained a following as a nutritional supplement that can improve certain parameters of exercise performance.[8] The basis of this belief is the fact that phosphate is required for the energy-producing Krebs cycle central to aerobic metabolism. Phosphates are available from a number of other sources that are much milder than TSP. While TSP is not toxic per se, it is severely irritating to gastric mucosa unless used as part of a buffered solution. Studies have shown that loading with TSP may increase an athlete's VO2 Max as well as reducing the accumulation of lactic acid in the muscles.[citation needed] Dosing is typically 3-4 grammes per day for three days prior to competition." -wiki cited this: ScienceDirect.com - Journal of Science and Medicine in Sport - Sodium phosphate loading improves laboratory cycling time-trial performance in trained cyclists so if anyone made it this far in the interest of a really clean bong, bub, or pipe, congratulations btw cheers to the first consumer of tsp, and of cow milk... you brave penguins.
Lol. Did you see this posted somewhere? It’s my method and I’ve been posting it on YouTube and Twitter. It is the best way to clean glass. I put TSP in warm water and soak for a few minutes. If really gunky, put your glass in a crockpot with TSP and soak as long as you want. Like new. It doesn’t matter if TSP is toxic or not (I don’t know if it is). We are talking glass here. It doesn’t hold onto the TSP. You just rinse it off.
Yep. That’s kinda when I started mentioning it on YouTube. Seriously, it’s the easiest. I look at all the cleaning vids and say “why make it so complicated?”
