The aluminum and Alzheimers myth started because of a correlation between workers at aluminum factories and them developing Alzheimers. Plastic on the other hand there is no myth about it that it releases carcinogens when it gets too hot.

im sixteen and i smoke out of a home made bong but it is not plastic i drilled a hole in a glass vase and but a mettal pen in the hole with a metal scket rench for a bowl it does teh job well and i made it myself it took about a day and 15$ still not as good as a Roor but i like it
To be dead honest I feel that homemade bongs are almost a part of the stoner culture now. I got a glass piece before I even found my own DD but I still wanted to MAKE one. I totally did not regret making my homemade since it rips very smooth. I truly feel that a well made homemade can probably hit better than many glass pieces. Don't get me wrong, I love the glass too but come on, give homemades more credit These people took time and effort to make them too. Why are you mad if a dr.pepper bottle bong is what they love?
There were primitive percs in acrylic bongs in California as far back as the late 80's from what I hear. They were called "Question Marks/?" percs because it was basically just a tube with a U-bend.
