I've been making pipes for a few years now, and I've decided to finally create a thread for my wooden friends.
Dang those are pretty cool! I like the way that they each have their own qualities, such as a certain crack, or a small charred section. I think I'll try makin' a few of my own when I get home, thanks OP.
Awesome! I really want to start making my own when the snow clears up. Good to see others interested in the craft Do you just find interesting pieces of wood laying around and go from there? And how do you prevent burning the bowl when in use?
I have two Chinese elm logs that I get the wood from. The wood is dense enough that the bowl doesn't burn. And I don't hold the lighter there long enough anyway.
would oak or apple wood work well for a pipe? I know tobacco pipes are generally pear root or briar, but I don't have any of that lying around here.
You should maybe char the bowls with a torch. I've made one in shoppe class but nver finished it beyond drilling.
