STRAIGHT TUBE vs. BEAKER BOTTOM

Discussion in 'Bongs, Dab Rigs, Bubblers, Water Pipes' started by frozenstein, Jan 5, 2011.

  1. I used to be into straights. I am digging the beakers lately though. I think they are fun to hit oil from and they can be heady as fuck. Try putting this on the base of a straight:

  2. What the fuck is with people extremely over-exaggerating drag on beakers?

I don't get it, my beaker clears super quick. There's so much more volume in a beaker, making it much more stable at the bottom. Bong water needs to be changed after 7 hits. Good luck taking a 30+ second draw from a straight without killing yourself (unless its a huge one). And I'm more scared about knocking the cookie cutter base of a straight tube than the flared out bottom of a beaker.

In the end it's all personal preference and I'm not trying to hate on anyone, but people complaining about busting a vein because there's so much drag is just stupid.

As you can see, I like beakers better

  3. Yeah really..haha

  4. I like the fast clear of the straight but i love the ability to build a huge chunk of smoke in a beaker

  5. I like the drag of a beaker... But with my illadelph straight tube I can hit it almost laying down witch is nice for wake and bake

  6. Well before viewing this thread I loved beakers, because I can milk a larger hit (more volume).. but I guess Ill have to get trendy and go with a straight tube.

  7. For all the people that are saying beakers dont clear fast:

P.S.- Im shwastad, so its not the meanest rip:smoke:

  8. yeah i like less volume, i take smaller hits. plus less water is cool. with beakers, unless its some dope fixed stem, it seems like so much dead space not being used haha.

  9. I used to own a beaker bottom then I sold it to my friend and I bought a straight tube that has a lot less drag (because the percolator only had one tree in the beaker) i like the straight cause it's lighter and easier to transport because i take it around a lot

  10. I typically prefer straight, but I think I'm going to get one of these made by DWB :hello:
I've never owned a beaker, and I figure its about time for one since I used to have a basic straight tube with slit diffused stem, then I sold it and got a SYN mini showerhead... But right now I'm deciding between a DWB squidline or something like the waffle wagon twin is getting but maybe in a toro micro style hmm.... the whole customability aspect of DWB is really making it difficult for me to pick anything hahahaha.

  11. That's a pretty bad example. That features a fixed design that just wouldn't fit in a straight and is made to diffuse like hell. A straight and a beaker, same height same downstem. That would be a decent comparison.

  12. Yeah the waffle to wagon sounds really cool.

  13. straight tube definitely. The smoke that builds in the bottom of a beaker will compress and get hotter when you take a draw

  14. haha yea i was gonna say that looked like a butane rip

  15. That's an intense beaker..i lost myself staring into the base of it. I prefer beakers over straights. More Volume and to me they seem more stable. I feel like in most cases if you were to knock into beaker it would wobble back..where as in a straight it would just fall over completely.Just seem more stable to me. Also..i find beakers to be better for vaporbonging.

  16. I like straight tubes because if a beaker cracks on the bottom, you're fucked. The straight tubes on the other hand have a base usually and if that cracks, the bong can still function properly without any water leaking. Beakers also just seem like a thing of the past. Most heady glass and modern glass nowadays is all straight tube.

  17. ive owned both, like both, my beaker is the sturdiest feeling bong ive ever picked up which is nice.

I'm a very experienced smoker, I naturally take big hits. My friends call me "barrel lungs". I can't take a hit from a straight tube like I can a beaker. Every bong I own (and will own) will be a percolated beaker, 2 - 2 1/2 feet tall.
Here's my new bong too, it's a European piece almost impossible to find now, especially here in the US. I had it shipped from a Canadian website and ended up with the last in stock. http://www.smoketower.ca/store/frost-percolator-bong-holy-ganesha
And here's the matching precooler to go with it I bought: http://www.smoketower.ca/store/Frost-Amazing-Precooler-B?filter_name=Frost

  19. I prefer beakers, big hits, a lot easier to control the amount of smoke you want to inhale (a.k.a the size of your hit), smoother hits (after that depends on percs/attachments, size etc..)

And beaker bongs are classic, a beaker bong sitting on your lap whilst sitting on a couch, how stoner is that hey ? Classics.

    Beakers are cool

  20. I've never hit a straight tube, but I'll tell you why I love my beaker!

    - looks awesome, like something out of a science lab
    - holds more water so you don't have to change it as awesome
    - feels sturdier because of the wide base, weighed down with lots of water
    - no splash back!
