Socket bowl

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by Chainer, Jul 26, 2010.

  1. Hey, I'm new to the city! I'm making my friends some bongs to take to college with them, but I'm having some trouble with designing a slider that uses these sockets. I know the concept, I just want to know what material I could use for the downstem. I've used an airsoft barrel before, but I don't have any of those left. I would use another Trombone mouthpiece, but they aren't cheap...
Also, How do I get the socket to work with the downstem? Do I glue it? Wouldn't that burn part of the glue per bowl?

Here's some pictures of my Last home made bong, my 4th one ever made.

It breaks into parts, yet is completely airproof.

  2. nice man you got the works goin i bet you feel good about makin all that ahah id love to construct a homemade bong that well, i just made one but it involved much less

  3. Take a bic pen. Hollow it out so it's just a tube. put the socket on. There you go!

  4. Wouldn't part of the pen melt or give off bad fumes if it's part of the bowl/slider?

PS, I just took some hits of my homemade, and I'm at about a 6 right now...:hello:

Yeah you need a metal tipped pen, all metal pen is even better. A plastic pen will melt. As for attaching the socket to the pen top. There really isn't a healthy choice I am aware of here unless you can thread them together. I've used silicone, electrical tape, epoxy none of it any good to use on the reg. You might be better off getting some metal lamp parts to make the stem and bowl. They are already threaded and what most cheap metal pipes are made out of.

  6. Well, the steam needs to be about 6 inches long to get it how I'd like it, but I don't have any 6 inch long pens... anyone know of anything that Harbor Frieght, Ace, or Home Depot sell that would be a good slider?

  7. used to use sockets all the time but i think they give off a bad taste i recomend just buying a piece but nice looking homemade

  8. Well I wanna give them a home made present instead of buying them an actual glass piece. I'm not made of money, but I am bored...

  9. hey man i enjoy making bongs but u are an engneer of sorts.
as for the bowl thing i gave a solution.
Purchace or steal a larger glue stick gut the glue stick including the twisty thing.
now insert a socket that creates a snug fit, just pit it in so the tip of the socket is still sticking out to eliminate burning the gluestick case. now just insert any pen case into the hole where the twisty thing went and there you have it a bowl that doesnt or shouldent burn any plastic if made right. now just glue a tube that the bowl stem can fit inside into your main chamber. I use sharpie cases because you can create a diffused down stem with it. also i wrap thread locker tape around the bowl stem to create an air tight fit.

  10. Do you have pics? It sounds like it would work, but I'm worried it'll be a really long bowl, and I'm trying to make a really small one out of a Perrier glass bottle. I don't wanna accidentally light my hair on fire instead of the bowl...
I'll be looking at our glue sticks and deciding how to do this bowl. how do you keep the weed in the bowl? I used a screen from a sink filter for my Smart Bong, but I'm not sure about what I could use in the socket, simply because I don't have more screens.

yeah i have 2 pics of my biggest bowl, i used the housing of an electronic motor 2 substitute the socket, so i didnt need a screen (there are 3 small hole in the bottom of the motor housing). I suppose you could use tin foil although i wouldn't, the only socket bowl i use features an A/C (ash catcher) so the ashes from the socket just falls through into the water. I hope that helps.
go to the below url 4 bowl pics

that's what I have to work with. I was thinking of putting that washer over the big 14 mm socket because 1/2 inch drive is huge. The goods would fall straight through :( This is what it would look like before and after.

here are my smaller sockets with their hole sizes:

I'm just pissed that I broke 2 of my bottles trying to drill the holes in them :(

  13. No offense or anything but if you're worried about your health then get a stainless steel/glass bowl and downtube made for smoking or get an actual device meant for smoking.

  14. None taken. I just think that buying them is too easy and expensive, and I got the engineer's mindset going for me.

Btw, I bought a 1/2 inch glass cutting bit, and I'm just going to make the sliders with the Slurpy straws, and attach the bowl to those. I just gotta get the hole cut right... I've gone through 5 bottles trying to cut right :(
