I understand that roor is not the "best" brand, but many people just hype them up because of the name. If you ask a random sample, whats one of the highest end companys for glass, im sure 90% will say ROOR. Im not here to argue whats better for the money and all that nonsense, but let me ask you this. If one company has a straight tube simple design piece going for 50... and roor has something almost identical for 150, does the german glass vs US glass really make that much of a difference. If the thickness is the same, design is the same. Why is weedstar the worst? We arent talking triple perc'd pieces and which has less drag and all that, we are looking at about the most basic design of a bong you can get. Roors are expensive because of the name and backround. Thats why they can get away with charging so much for even the simplest design. Some high prices may have to do with the quality of glass, and markups from it coming into the US, but part of it is the name.
the problem is you assume that the pieces are identical, which they are not. roor has CONSISTENCY their pieces are the same thickness throughout, they are annealed properly, they have experienced blowers who have been doing it for quite a while, they know their shit, and they know what the fuck they are doing behind a torch. that same straight tube for 50, probably has thin shitty joints, fucked up welds,uneven thickness throughout, improper annealing, probably isnt made with schott boroscilate, etc. thats why a roor is superior to a $50 piece
I understand quality will be less with a cheaper price, generally. I also understand that most of the things you listed are very particular and most of them would only be noticed by a true glass collector/enthusiast. With that being said I can tell you many people who buy roors do so because they know them for being expensive. Like a member said above, roor isnt the best company out there. If your looking for perfection in a bong, there are other brands. ROORS can have defects also. Most of which wont effect the smoke, but the appearance. ROOR seems to be very popular among tokers simply because of the name. While some people may have been looking for those certain aspects of the blowing process while choosing their piece, many just grab the piece that has a familiar ROOR sticker on the side. You can think of a million examples in the real world, Nike, Abercrombie, Louis Vuitton. While some of the markup may have to do with the quality of materials used, Most of it is because of the popularity.
correct, some of it is a name, BUT,, stoners who buy roor for the name are usually the type to walk into a headshop and say- "hey look at that roor all my friends have one so i will buy one too. they must be the best" and most of the time walk out of the store with a fake roor, (and dont even bother negotiating lol)

RooR and other high quality brands are worth your money because, like the Pinto and new Lexis comparison, they do the same thing, but one in much better class. since I have bought my roor I can't put it down, hits amazing, smoother an nicer than any one of the no name bongs my friends all pick up for almost the same price at the board walk. Buying a roor today can be a little sketchy because of all the fakes, so make sure you go to a nice head shop that gets legit shit, or you know somebody who got theirs from a long time ago and is willing to sell. I've also been wanting to try Sheldon Black...

hey guys, i have a question my local shop just got roor in. the one i was looking at is the bigger size however the label on the ash catcher is yellow which i havnt seen before. the price is also cheap. however when i went to a legit head shop they had a license to sell roor and the whole bit. this shop has like 4 with 2 of them small and percd yet no splash guard. i know it seems fake but there damm real looking.

I really dont see what is so special about a RooR anyways, Ive had bomb ass ice catcher bongs that have been made by local blowers that were about 1/4th the price of a RooR and are better in my opinion. Good looking out tho, if I was going to buy a RooR I would certainly want a real one!! Ps. I really like the Rasta Colored REAL RooR on the first page.. jah bless!!
There isn't much special about the function of a ROOR. It's all about aesthetics, quality construction and consistency... as well as paying historical homage. They started all this GonG business after all.
German Roors are worth the money US Roor's ain't worth shit. Neither the new gen Zob Roor's or the old Dementia Roors. I shipped a couple .de's to one of the biggest glass dealers in the US and he was amazed at the quality difference. Yeh .us may have been more innovative but they were sloppy as shit.
