Hey guys, I really think that it is time that this thread is created because we have way to many fake RooRs coming onto the forums and to many people arguing over what is real and what is fake. So to resolve this I want to make an official thread that people can come onto and see the difference between real RooRs and fake RooRs. Also the point of this is to make sure that people can become educated with the what a fake RooR looks like so that when they go into a head shop they know not to buy a fake RooR because their are plenty of head shop owners out there that are selling RooRs to uneducated kids and making buck loads off of it. And it really sucks to see someone come on here with a fake RooR and get excited and post a thread and then just get blasted with people criticizing it yelling in their face that it is fake and they got ripped off. SIGNATURE The first thing that I want to talk about is the signature of the RooR bongs. I can say that MOST every RooR bong that is bought will come with a signature, and if it doesn't that should be your first clue that it isn't real. Also, the side at which the signature is on doesn't make a difference. Some come with them above the joint, some on the right, some on the left. This also doesn't have anything to do with it being blown in the United States or Germany, it is just the blower preference. Since every signature is unique to its blower, you can't really look at it and tell if it is fake or not. One of the signatures that has come up on PLENTY of fake RooRs is the dots hugging the joint. All of the bongs that are pictured below with that signature are fake, and aren't genuine. So your first clue when walking into a head shop and seeing one of these would be to stay away from it because it's fake. LOGOS First off I want to let everyone know that the color of the logo doesn't really have anything to do with it being fake or not. So don't worry about logo color when inspecting a RooR. The things that you need to look out for are the registered trademark symbols (®). You need to make sure that it is located on the bottom right part of the logo. Also make sure that the bottom of the R's is facing towards the left. On some of the fake RooRs you will see no trademarks sometimes, also you will see the logos flipped, and also you will see the trademark at the top of the logo. Also check the position of the logo and its size. If a logo looks way to big for the actual size of the pipe, then it most likely is. Make sure the logo also doesn't go past the ice catchers or covers up a percolator. If any of these is on a RooR it is a fake, no exceptions, no blower preference. Plan and simple the RooR is fake. ICE PINCHES All RooRs have ONLY THREE ice pinches, not two, not four. So if you see a RooR that has four ice pinches, you right off the bat know that it is a fake and don't purchase it. You can see in the picture below that this one has four pinches making it a fake RooR. Also make sure that the ice pinches are to high on the piece. A lot of fake RooRs will have a huge gap between the ice pinches and top of the beaker, so make sure they look normal. For example if you look at the green logo one above, you can see that the ice pinches were put way to high up on that bong, and is a clear sign of a knock off. BEAKER BOTTOM / STRAIGHT TUBE BASE There really isn't a true way to tell just by look at the beaker unless it is completely unlike the real RooRs. You can see in the picture below that the beaker shape of the RooR is unlike any other normal beaker, and how the joint is positions gives it away also. RooR makes there lines and shapes very smooth, so look for anything like this. When it comes to straight tubes make sure the base of them is not super thin and is also not stamped. It needs to be a smooth flowing base and doesn't look cheaply made. The bongs on the left are real, and the ones on the right are fake. I think I have covered the main things that are easy and pretty obvious giveaways for fake RooRs. But I have a couple more points to add that you should also consider when going into a head shop and looking at the RooRs. - If you are going to get a percolated RooR, make sure it has a splash guard, if it doesn't then it is fake. - Not all RooRs come with a diffused down stem, so if the RooR you are looking at doesn't have one, then don't assume its fake. - Just because you got a box that says RooR on it, doesn't mean that it is legit. I have seen many people get their fake RooRs with a box, so they think its all legit. If they can make fake glass bongs, then they can easily make fake boxes. - Bongs are some what heavy, so pick it up and if it feels like thin cheap glass then it most likely is. Use your instinct, and talk to the shop keeper. Let him know that you are serious and don't want to be bullshitted. I hope that I have helped to educate everyone on what is fake and what is not. The point of this thread is for people to be able to not be fooled by scum head shop owners and take get what they want. It is so upsetting to see all these fake RooRs so hopefully people will read this thread before going into a head shop so that they can spot the fake ones and stay away from them. I'm sure I have missed something so feel free to PM me or tell me in the thread and I will get it into this post as soon as I can. I want to make a great guide for people to be able to spot fake RooRs. Happy Tokin Folks!
NICE!!!! NICE!! I think that pretty much covers everything. if everything turns out to be correct and this is valuable information as it is. this needs to be stickied. Also rep for you for taking the time to have this presented very well.
very nice man very nice... i know now that mine is fa sho a roor. i was always unsure but i did get it at an authorized dealer so hopefully someone like that is a dealer wouldn't do that. definitely +++rep!
Good guide... its also important to look at joint size... and by that I mean the length of the ground joint, not the diameter. Fake RooRs tend to have short, shallow joints. Also look out for shops that have "ROORs" and all the tubes in stock have the same, genuine-looking sig. There should be a variety of sigs in a shipment. If they're all the same they're probably all fake.
Word. Listen to this thread, I got ripped off a bit ago on a fake Roor and was mega pissed. If it feels the slightest, the very slightest off than it most likely fake. Also if a buy seems too much like a deal, just walk away plain and simple, don't want to get caught up in some bullshit.
Great! Thanks for the input guys, and thanks for posting pictures of fakes. I wanna educated everyone so we don't see fellow GC members coming in with fake RooRs and getting ripped off.
Thanks very much, I've wanted to know how to spot the fake ones for a while. Is Roor the most commonly copied company? What other companies are copied?
I think RooRs are the easiest to copy because of the lack of percs. I know there are perc'd RooRs but most aren't. So i think they're just a big name company and easy to impersonate. Unlike if someone tried to make a fake toro i think those would be easy to spot. JP makes too godly work to be easily impersonated EDIT: BTW sticky please.
who cares if its a fake ROOR??? as long as its a bong and get u high thats all that shud matter....IMO
True. But most head shop owners don't tell the customer that it is a fake so then they are getting ripped. That is why I created this thread so people can be able to tell. It's a lot different then like fake purses because when you buy one you know that you are buying a fake.
Yeah but when you spend the cash to get what you thought was a RooR and ended being a cheap knock-off which you could've spent half the money on idk about you but wouldn't that make you pretty damn mad?
Because when you buy a ROOR you pay for the consistency that comes with one. When you buy a ROOR you should rest easy that it is a quality product, and that all their products are study and thick. So when you buy a fake ROOR who knows how thick the glass is on the bottom of that beaker or how thick the foot is on the straight?
Because most people would rather not pay ROOR prices for china glass... Edit: Lol didn't know three other people had already called him out
It's this mentality that made the guys at Roor.us want to give up their license. I hope your happy, now my chances of getting a double perc'd roor are even slimmer! ha but here's a gallery with a shit ton of legit Roor glass, for some pics if you need more http://www.unsaccodicanapa.com/htmlpages/roor_photo_gallery.html
+rep for a good thread one thing you must think about. what makes roors so expensive in the first place? there popularity. i dont really like roor. percd us roors are sick as fuck. why pay mad$$$$$$$ for a brand name when you could have a sick perced piece? EDIT: not ragging on roor. they make some of the most consistent pieces out. but good $$$ could be spent else where imho. too hard to detect the good from the bad? dont buy roor!!!! roor is a relatively new glass company. just because some german fuck thinks he can make the best piece doesnt mean it is the best. this company is great but blown wayyyyy out of proportion.
