PVC Bongs

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by Zeppelin Joint, Nov 9, 2004.

  1. I was really bored today and i was thinking about making a PVC bong with a glass bowl and stem form the local headshop.

PVC could be used to make any possible legnth, width length and theirs tons of fittings for different angles and curves. You could create one exactly like you've ever wanted for dirt cheap at a hardware store. When i have the time or when i get off my lazy ass i'm gonna make a big ass bong that will be so sweet.

Does anyone else think this would be a good idea.

  2. hey, I too am a McGyver toker, you can check out my pieces out at the threads "How to make Homemade Bongs" and "Homemade Acrylic Bongs". My favorite PVC piece is the Pipebomb, if you want construction instructions just let me know and I'll try to explain it to you.

  3. I've always heard you're not supposed to smoke out of PVC because it is bad for you

  4. sorry i havn't heard of a PVC bong... could some one explain??

  5. PVC or Polyvinylcarbonate, the stuff that water pipes are made out of. When PVC is heated it realeses carcenagens, generaly not the best material for a bong.

  6. maybe i'll use acrylic just to be safe. Our world sucks if you can get cancer from hot water traveling through your pipeing and lead poisoning from your taps.

  7. if the PVC is solely there to hold your water, i dont understand why it would be a problem. I've heard it's bad to use PVC for a pipe, because the heat is so close to the PVC stem, but I thinkthat the whole idea behind a bong would keep the PVC from getting heated enough to emit anything. Like Zeppelin said, these things carry hot water, right? That means they shouldnt be emitting anything until past the temperature of hot water. As long as you dont designthe bong to have any heat contact with the PVC, you should be in the clear. Anyone actuallyknow, rather thantalking rumors,or trying to logic it out?

  8. Hey man that is exactly what I am talking about. I have always made PVC bongs but whenever I broke out a prize bong, people would kringe and wouldn't smoke, so now I make them out of Acrylic, I just got into it and it's a little different because you have to fabricate your own pieces, but it looks alot nicer, which is cool cause when your at a smoker's gathering you can say, "yeah motha-fucka I made that."

  9. water is differnt than smoke. two totaly different compounds.

lets do an experiment shall we? go down to your water heater and find all the hot water pipes. tell me what they are made of...should be copper right?

if its not copper then you have a new cheaply renovated house. if it is PVC, follow that pipe (make sure its going to the house) and you should find one hell-of-a filter.

you guys need to think and quit talking out of your ass

  10. A flame is much much hotter than hot water out of tap anyhow. Your tap doesn't put out boiling water. It's maybe around 90-100 degrees at it's hottest.

  11. Ok. I just joined this forum to post this reply. I am sick of all these people out here that think they know what they are talking about. I have talked to a doctor of science about the construction of pvc bongs. I have come to to this conclusion. PVC releases bad shit when melted. The key word here being melted. It has a melting point of 140 degrees Fahrenheit.
So if we know this than we need to take into consideration of the temperature where the stem meets the pvc. Ok. A long hit on a bong would be about 10 seconds. So take a ten second hit and then touch the stem where it meets the pvc for 5 seconds. Hell yes it hurts but will it give you a third degree burn. Hell no. Allying 140 degrees to the skin for 5 seconds will give you a third degree burn. Therefore the stem won't get hot enough to melt the pvc. Now if you want to reply to this and say im wrong then it's just a pride thing cause i have stated 100% provable facts.

  12. I've hit a 10 foot PVC pipe before and it was the fucking shit... my buddy was at the end and blew it all into my lungs... it was the biggest hit I'VE EVER TAKEN. It was a simple design... 10ft PVC pipe and drilled a whole big enough to put a slider in and it was a 10ft PVC steamroller. But if I where u I would get acryillac bong... cheap 6 footers for $50... I milked one up with some pretty good bud, took me 2-3 hits to clear and it was the highest I've ever been.

  13. wow.. so you joined this forum to reply to a 4 year old post... congrats

  14. wtf, how did he find this?

  15. *PVC = Poly(vinyl chloride).

  16. CPVC is hot water rated & can be installed directly to water heater.
CPVC is a smaller diameter than regular PVC.
Some 16-17 years ago I had a home made PVC bong that was my regular utensil for a good 2 years(until my mom found it & cut it up on the band saw!). It was about 14'' in height. 2'' pipe with a female threaded apadtor on the bottom with a 2'' threaded plug for clean out. I jammed a foam beer can cozy on the bottom for a base.I used a rubber gommet around stem so the PVC wouldn't melt.the stem elevated the bowl about 3'' from the PVC so the flame wouldn't be right up alongside the PVC

  17. hey im gonna have to go ahead and side with the "its ok" people.

first of all, there absolutely correct about the temperature not getting hot enought to melt the PVC. Althought PVC does give of certin toxins at lower heat than its melting point were talking about low low levels of toxins which are MUCH less than those produced by smoking un-filtered marijuana or tobacco. I think this here is the key. If your worried about using a PVC bong you should probably reconsider smoking altogether.

Marijuana smoke has over 100 chemicals in it other than THC including several polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), and carcinogenic toxins that are also common in tobacco smoke. A bong will only remove a certain percentage of some of these chemicals.

If you really wanna worry bout that shit and use marijuana, use a vaporizer which is the most effective way of reducing toxin emissions but even that isn't perfect. Its the same idea as the PVC, most materials have chemicals with low vaporizing points and weed and PVC are included in this. THC is also one of these chemicals as well releasing itself from the bud at about 365 F which means you don't actually have to burn the bud to get the effects.

Personally, i use a double filtering PVC bong with 2' of 2" PVC so the second filtration helps filter these toxins out with a second much cooler pass through the water.

  18. I definently think its a good idea. I actually made one last night with a 18" long piece of 1.5" PVC and a hollowed out sharpie with holes melted in the cap for a diffuser. It works great, it's even smoother than some g-on-g bongs ive used.

  19. I have a 10" bong in height, 2" pipe. I got it when my friend moved away, it's my main piece and it has a stainless steel stem and it's airtight, it doesn't melt so I don't get bad shit in my lungs and it rips AMAZING!

  20. As long as the flame and heat are not near the PVC pipe it should be okay. I wouldn't prefer it though.
