PH and PPM...whats it all about..

  1.
My first pH meter was the cheapest I could possibly get at the time. £10 straight from China. I used that for 8 years until I somehow smashed the glass sensor. The one I have now was even cheaper at £5 and I've had it 2 years. I've never dropped a meter in the water. Although I do keep a spare meter just in case it should happen, and as they are less than £4 now I'd be mad not to have a back up ready.nothing wrong with the cheap ones imo

  2. Thanks for the guide it really helped me out.

  3. So whats the reasoning behind PH levels being so important? Like why is it that what the PH is determines how well the plant uptakes essential nutrients? I cant help but ask myself this in chemistry while we were having a lecture on solubility. Is PH important because some of most common compounds, especially in hydro, are better dissolved and put into ionic form so that the plant take them up with ease? Or is it more of biological basis and the PH is what says "hey were dealing with season/environment/stressor, so you need to take up these nutrients to properly respond"? I know alot of this could very possibly be theoretically based, but I'm only taking my most basic science courses right now, and wonder if there is some deeper reasoning behind PH.

    Double Post [IMG]

  5. Thanks for this! Gonna go back and read again but it was very helpful to get a general concept of why ph and ppm is important.

  6. Damn good info

great article what do you guys think about test strips for ph cant quite budget a meter into the operation. [IMG] [IMG]

  8. The most important thing absolute and special on my hydroponics

  9. Always check what comes out the bottom of your pot or system if you are in a drain to waste system. The pH and ppm that comes out is as important as what goes in.

  10. Since I'm tired of having some of my plants SUDDENLY FOLD...

( Just lost my BEST CLONE )

I'm reading more about PH and PPM....

This explanation at the beginning was very helpful and written so I could

    actually UNDERSTAND it...

I've already ordered a TDS meter... But no Calibrating solution...

The way I see it , If Distilled water is 0 ppm... That should be a ready available solution to use ?

If I'm wrong... I'll need to buy the solution...

I've tested my PH .... (Lake) Water and Soil (outside grow) they were fine...

But was surprised to hear the well water probably helped fuck up my clone ( Inside growing )...

Ok... it was only part of the reason.... Other part was not measuring PPM of the Nutes I added..

I got some Lake water and Flushed it.... Too Little ,Too Late...

Still a LOT to learn.... Thanks GC for a great place to find the info I need !

  11. Great Post Yoda!

  12. I saved the Clone.... Flushed twice with clear water...

It's back to being the best...

As far as the PH meter... A added calibration fluids to the order...
I did some reading... The Distilled water could have worked a little...
    But not over time...
So spending 50 bucks on a meter... I want to know it's reading correctly...

    Well.... For an update...
After checking PH and PPM's in a lot of stuff...
I found that I love tools like this ,that can tell me things I can't see...
My plants have never been so healthy...and GREEN
Between Organic soil I put together...
    and a GOOD water...( Lake Water PPM-11 , PH 7.1 )
    It's automatic...
I haven't added any nutes yet...
I'm almost done shaping... LST and some Clipping ...
setting up Multiple Colas on each plant

I'll be ready to Veg for a Short Month...5-1-1
    Take a batch of clones...

    Then I'll switch to Bloom...0-10-10

  14. That batch is doing fine... They are getting close to harvest...
The lake is frozen.... So I tested Snow... PPM and PH is good...
    Here's a picture...
