It does smell lovely in here! The boys out back are shedding all sorts of pollen. It’s a bit unexpected being the middle of summer but may be due to near constant fog. I’ll be making small jars of pollen to store until I am ready to make some seed stock on the lower branches of these ladies. But yeah, over all I am super impressed with how well things are going.
So I collected some pollen/pollen sacs from my hybrid BB X SL. I wanted to get some from the sativa dominant LH but he is playing shy and not flaunting his seed.
The last of the die hard LHs seems to be female. FUCK YEAH! ‘So that’s 3 girls, two hybrids (one sativa dominant, one indica dominant), and one solid sativa strain. And 2 males, one hybrid and one solid sativa strain. I feel blessed indeed.
So I am considering installing a vertical screen for a SCROG grow. Anyone want to offer a perspective on this? I would have started earlier, but there is building painting starting today with prep work, lasting for about a week. Once the painters are gone, the screen will be installed, unless someone can convince me that it is a bad idea. Essentially I am approaching the window as a vertical light source.
This will be an interesting flowering season. I’ve decided to go ahead with a scrog. Reason being is if I allow the massive colas I see forming, to fully develop, the colas will be so heavy as to fall over. The other interesting aspect is that this window gets more sun in the spring and fall than during summer, due to the angle of the sun in relation to the window. it’s going to be nice.
But do they ever take a lot of water! I had forgotten how much. So, disappointingly, the window has been covered with plastic the past 5 days or so. The building is being refinished and painted. I expect it to be done very soon. Luckily it’s a translucent plastic and the girls seem to be fine. I finally put together a design to support a vertical SCROG frame. I’ll be assembling that tomorrow. I’ll try to document it well. Another project is the Kief Kannon. Based upon the Hashmaker 5000, I have been waiting on parts and tools so I could do this up proper. The last element should be here to tomorrow so I can get that project launched.
There will be a pair of vertical 2 by 4s that will be bolted to the base. The SCROG frame will sit on an independent base, and this frame will steady it.
Uprights bolted to 4 by 4 base and SCROG frame fitted between the uprights. This is approximately how it will be built with the bottom of the frame being 3 feet off the floor.
Nice! Mine have yet to smell but all strains are different. When they start to smell, they really smell lol.
Mine are “somewhat” subtle still, but piercing and sweeter than honey. As mentioned these seeds (the two big ones) are developed strains for this area, hence the earlier flowering. My 3rd, the tiny late starting sativa, is not flowering yet.
Almost done. The support frame installed in front of my lovely south facing window. The support frame is only 5 pieces of wood. It took a little longer than I thought. I originally wanted to bolt the cross bracing feet to the 4 by 4 base, but that was not a well thought out idea. So 3 inch deck screws did the trick.
And it’s a wrap. The top of the SCROG frame is at 6 feet. Time to get baked then move the plants in and start feeding the branches through the screen.
