Organic Vegetable Gardening

  1. It’s still a tad cool here in 7b so I’m prepping beds and starting seeds inside. I’ve got Sage and several flower/veg seeds to get going.

  2. Yeah I get it... these temperature swings still have me a bit nervous to be honest. Today is supposed to have a high of 75 for crying out loud, and low of 35 tomorrow night. Wtf.

I might lose a few things, but hakuna matata. If anything were to pass on, at least I got a bit of organic matter in the soil. I'm just chomping at the bit to see some green in the garden so bad I don't mind rolling the dice lol

  3. I had mentioned in one of these threads about big plans to start planting today and just take a gamble but I’ve got frost warnings for later this week so I’ll just be focused on keeping what I’ve got started warm. It’s gonna be that week that I usually worry about in late April.

  4. I vote for arugula. Love the stuff. I’m always snacking on it in the garden. Sounds like a great garden already!

  6. My Brandywine plants are about to outgrow the little greenhouse and pellets. I’ve got to get them in soon.

I got piles all over the place, I could use about 10 geo bins!
The hugels are almost loaded with wood. Had them loaded last year and they settled down over the winter, luckily, I didn't do much tree maintenance the last couple decades and there's alot off nice dead stuff that would fit perfectly.

  9. I always feel for the gardeners up north that have to deal with late frost and fronts. It switches up come fall when all our plants are fried from the summer and yall are still pulling in fat harvest tho. We had a historic late freeze down here last month which got me started a few weeks late. I still feel like its gonna be a good year for the garden, especially after trying the first cuke of the year. 20210420_160148.jpg 20210420_160135_HDR.jpg 20210420_160015.jpg 20210419_135546.jpg 20210419_141057.jpg 20210414_121448.jpg 20210416_105323.jpg

  10. I’m in the south and have frost warnings for the next 2 nights. Is there a way you can cover your stuff up? Buckets, tubs, plastic, anything will help. I have my weed plants in SIPs that I can move but my mint garden is in an outbuilding with no heat.

  11. In the building, a fan blowing across the plants should help them avoid freezing.
    Cheers

  12. They haven’t even germed yet. I’ll probably bring them in tonight and leave them in the worm room for a day or so.

  13. I'll place little trash bags over them tonight... but I'm not sure what else can be done. They're already mulched as deep as I can make 'em

  16. It looks to be a rough few days ahead and I just heard my local weather lady say “plant damaging cool” so I’m bummed over these peach trees. I’m keeping them moist and would like to get them in tomorrow. Heavy rain Sat so I don’t know.

  20. Thnx, I plan on packing dirt n shredded leaves into it, and water it and repeat. I'll go down each one with the chainsaw and level it some.
Go deeper with soil and put sticks in.
I'll be going thru alot of weed next week! Lol!
