New pipe I "made"

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by rebirth, Jan 3, 2010.

  1. Ok so i just took an 1/8" brass pipe and an 1/8" 90 degree elbow and put them together. Very easy, and i can take it apart for easier hiding. planning on breaking it in either tonight or tomorrow. This is more of a one-hitter than an actual pipe though. One question, will it be any more unhealthy to smoke out of the brass. I did a little research and found the melting point of brass is 1652-1724 degrees Fahrenheit and a Bic lighter's temp is about 3590.6 degrees Fahrenheit. as long as i don't torch it, it should be good...right? Any thoughts are appreciated... here are a couple pics of it.

  2. I'm certain you will inhale toxins/fumes.

  3. dont risk it, just go buy a cheap one

  4. Brass + Copper are pretty much the 2 worst metals you can use for pipe-making. Lots of fumes and nasty stuff like that.

  5. i gotta be honest, it looks cool, but theres no way its possibly safe to smoke with, probably could harm yourself. not worth the risk at all

  6. theres no fuckin way a BIC lighter heats up over 3000 degrees

  7. I bet your safe. Neither of those meatals is going to vaporize and end up in your lungs. I use a brass slider for my bong all the time.

  8. +1...

  9. you're probably safe because the metal won't heat up enough to produce any fumes or toxins... but to be honest it's still a pretty ghetto pipe. you'd be better off making a gravity bong or something. nice job being creative though

  10. A friend of mine made a pipe that looks actually pretty much exactly the same. Yeah it works i guess but it tastes like shit. Its pretty gross you can actually taste the metal.

  11. ha, ghetto... ya i see. i was just bored. i have a glass pipe that i usually use but i figured i would venture into another pipe building adventure. (i didnt really build it though, i just screwed 2 things together lol) oh and because, it comes apart, i might keep it in my car, apart and separated. So some of you say its fine, some of you say its bad. I dont know. What about brass screens? could it really be much different?

  12. Good to look~ Bad to smoke

  13. This. With the figures you gave, you could easily weld brass with a Bic...don't think so.

Anyways, it may be safe, but I probably wouldn't risk it. I know, it's awesome to smoke out of something you've made, but getting a $5 metal pipe would definitely be safer.

  14. wait so you are telling me that everything i see on the internet isnt true? Oh shit.

  15. I would only be worried about the fumage from the copper pipe. The brass piece is definetly thick enough to use though. Don't mind the people telling you it's unsafe. To get any amount of harmful fumes you would need to melt the metal or get it glowing red. I say you're definetly in the clear on this one.

  16. ya i wana know if a bic really gets that hot i dont see any white flams comming off my bic but idk maybe he got a special one hah

  17. ha well i didnt personally take the temp of my lighter. This was just a statistic i found on the internet. Here...

  18. Hes right about the temperature of butane burning, though the dissipation is very high and the speed of the burning gas is slow so a lot of the heat is lost very quickly.

  19. Nice McGyver-ship.... but I too would not risk smoking that. Smoking is bad enough for you already without adding fuel to the fire with that. Nevertheless, enjoy:wave:

  20. Where did you get your pieces from? i went to ace and a local hardware store and only found copper pipe and fittings. I guess i gotta go to home depot or lowes.
