HELLO GRASSCITY I've been on Grasscity for a couple of weeks now, but this is my first post! I'm really new to toking but I figured my post is more about the bong I made so I thought I'd post here. (I'm not very familiar with all the names of the parts of the bong so please correct me if I'm wrong.) So I made this bong out of a 1.5 liter juice bottle, 'cause it had a wide mouth and I thought it'd be a bit easier to add ice to if I do decide to do that. I made the down stem out of a straw, which is duct taped into the bottle. The socket is made of a little 3V motor casing with a bit of metal mesh, which is attached to a stem of a pen, that fits quite well over the end of the straw that has a bit of tape on. The whole things isn't completely airtight, as I can blow a tiny bit of air through the top while holding my thumb on the end of the straw, but it seems alright. So what do you think? Does it look alright, and more importantly will it work alright? Thanks
It's ok. It's nothing compared to my homemades from high school though. It's alright if it isn't totally airtight, as long as it's mostly airtight. A few tips for that design style: I'm not a fan of duct tape on pieces, and gum works well instead. After making an airtight seal on the downstem you use tape against the bottle to angle the stem properly. On attaching the bowl, also use gum then wrap the joint area with foil which should be stiff enough to support the bowl. I would also recommend using a pen shaft instead of a straw and a socket from a socket wrench set for the bowl. That combination is very easy to make work and will look cleaner than what you've got going on there. For that setup you need to make a carb hole because the bowl won't be removable.
Awesome thanks for the advice! What do you mean by gum though? Like what sort of gum...? And I heard there are like stuff coated on aluminum foils that are apparently bad for you? That's kind of why I steered clear of it when I made this.
back in the day any time i used gum to mke shit airttight, it always ended up as a gooey mess once the piece got hot. I'd just use a 20oz bottle, a sharpie, and 1x1 inch of can...you've got yourself a homemade water pipe
when you make the hole, heat it up and right as the it starts to get big enough shove a pen tube in their to use as a down stem. It will make the hole at least close to air tight just on its own. Then you can wrap some tape around the down stem were it will be inserted in to the bong until you have it thick enough that the bong is air tight. I wouldn't recommend using a plastic straw as with my experience of using home mades in the old days stuff like that can melt and I dont want melting plastic anywhere close to what I inhale. Anyways, stop being a cheap ass and smoking out of plastic. If you can afford weed then you can afford a 99 cent pack of papers, a 5 dollar one hitter, or a 10 dollar spoon.
I do have paper and I've rolled up some joints, but I just thought I'd give the bong a go, 'cause I never smoked out of one before. Also, there aren't really any head shops where I live (I don't think), otherwise I'd probably buy a pipe or something.
Dude trust me anybody can make a bong out of plastic bottles. Truth is no matter what you do to or with it it still sucks.
