Just carved this beast out of some Hickory log I had laying around... I was gonna go with a traditional tobacco pipe look, but I started whittling and forming it and it took on it's own shape. It's already got personality and I haven't even smoked it yet. Kept it simple and it decided it wanted to look like some badass log. Then again, that may have just been my mindset, as I'm spending all weekend camping out at a Civil War re-enactment and it seemed to fit. Just took a drill, pocket knife, some sandpaper and a few hours! It's my first permanent piece, and I'm stoked that it turned out so well.
Yeah, posted that just before I left for work Friday. Got off work and headed over to the camp. Went to Ace and bought a 13/16" Faucet Aerator for the screen, burned it a bit to make sure it was clean, and loaded it up. Works just as well, if not better than any pipe I've used before, real or improvised. Very little drag, the carb's just the right size. Light the bowl once, the smoke rolls until the bowl's cashed.
