Hello everyone! I posted a topic over in the introductions forum if any of you would like a quick intro, but basically I'm going to post ALL of my home made stuff in one go. I could spread it out, but i think I'd rather it all contained in one place for easier access and discussion. So I've taken pictures of most of the shit I've made, because as is the nature of homemade shit out of cheap plastic: It wears out. Mainly it gets too dirty and holds onto it too much to the point where it just needs to be thrown out, but for whatever reason, I'm just saying I don't still have all of these. I love making things to smoke out of, in every way. I've never been good at making anything, and to actually be able to create things to aid me in my favourite activity, it's a good feeling! It's an even better feeling when people are impressed with them, or how happy people are when I make things for them. I'll post them in order of complex-ness, because there have been just a lot of little standard ones made, and then lots of crazy experiments too.
Ok, so getting a little more advance... 2 person thing. Was mainly to see how well it worked. Goes ok. Fun for visitors Same concept, just taken a step further. This one's a lot of fun So here's a couple of pics of ash catchers/pre-coolers I tried to make. The smaller one didn't hold up, the chunky one however, became my regular piece for what felt like about 2 months! Just had it on the front of king bong (Just an acrylic we bought)
Ok, so we'll go up one more step to ice catchers. These were very very basic, and just had a place for the ice to rest, and instead of having one hole, I drilled a few holes to try and dry diffuse it a bit: Yeah 1 litre bottles never work too well, too hard to clear. but yeah, this was a first attempt This one was a lot better! Very simple, very effective. Ice cold hits, and putting the tape around the mouth piece like that makes it more comfortable and a much tighter fit, you can feel it vacuum to you when you start pulling This was the first glass slider piece we got, had to go to sydney for it, and I wanted to stick it in something, so we used a cool little bottle from the Hospital
Ok, so now we'll get into the crazy shit. This was just one I followed a youtube tutorial to make. Basically, you cut the top off a bottle, drill some holes in the sides of it, and stick it on top of the first bottle. Put another bottle over them both, and that's it. It creates a really basic percolator, but again, big open bottles like this are shit and too hard to draw through and clear. THIS, is the 'Rainbow Warrior'. We still have, and use, this one. It was a lot of work. It started from me wanting to make a percolator. It's hard to see in this pic, but there is one in there, a working one. It's an essence bottle, the same sort I used to make the first small ash catcher. The bottom bottle of the bong has it's lid on, and a hose air tight fit through the lid. That pipe goes through another air tight fit in the lid of the essence bottle. This is the trickiest part with making percs, they HAVE to be sealed completely. So basically to cut a long story short, this thing took about 4 hours to make, countless rolls of tape for the amount of times I took it apart, but I got it in the end. It's completely air tight, the perc works perfect, the top chamber is high enough for an ice catcher, it's great. It was meant to be stream lined and colour matched and everything, but as the night went on, and I had to keep pulling it apart, I kept running out of ideas. The bits it's made out of are the last remaining bottles and lids I had in the house at the time. Mat and Holly both had passed out asleep and I was running around like a crazy scientist. It's definitely a fun thing to pull out when people are around, and yeah I guess it turned out looking pretty spectacular. So this was an attempt to make a streamlined simple version of the rainbow warrior. the problem with the essence bottle as a perc was that it was so massive, and such a big chamber needed to be put over it to cover it and have enough room for water, but enough space not to have water fly up into your mouth. I realised that M&M minis containers would be PERFECT! Long and narrow, so no worry there, just had to have something tall enough. So, this design is flawed in a big way in that it's thin and top heavy. More water goes into the top chamber than the bottom, so the slightest knock and over it goes. This is also an older picture, that blue perc was a failure, and was actually cut down in size, the next one I put in was a full size one in yellow. I had this thing for a few weeks. It never got a name, but it was nice while it lasted. The working perc meant nice smooth hits, just it got knocked over SO many times, and in the end got too dirty to bother pulling it apart to risk breaking it just to clean it.
i hear u man. i used to have this little homemade pocket bong i made out of a miniskis, a test tube and a removable socket piece. thing hit like a beast. wasnt cheap plastic either. the good stuff. lol, if there is good stuff. but i would bring it out without a problem since it was a pocket bong, and people would ask me where i got it from, and i would say or one my friends would say i made it. i loved to hear those reactions. it was a great feeling that u made something that people marvel at (so to speak haha) but those looks like some pretty well made pieces bro. hahaha, the vacuum tube one os ghetto as shit. just sayin. but i love the shape of them! what knd of bottle did u use?
This is one we made for someone. I said I'd make him one, and he asked for something cool that he could show off to his friends. So, I wanted to make something simple and clean, but also big and fancy enough to be a conversation piece. First things first meant putting a perc in it, as I'd become obsessed with them and the huge difference they make to the smoke. So, I knew I wanted one of the little bubble bottles, and a thick stem, I just wasn't sure about the perc and top. So I went for a walk around a few supermarkets looking for interesting spring water bottles, and ended up finding this one. it was perfect! Really long and clean and smooth looking, but really thin, thin enough I thought to perfectly air tight seal around the top bubble part of one of the bottles... and voila! So on the way out, I was just going to buy a matching colour M&M minis pack and make another perc like that, but there were special breast cancer edition ones, which amazingly matched the colour, and were really long! Long would have been a problem, except I'd just got the awesome long top chamber piece! So, I put this all together, and after resealing it about 4 times, got it 98% leak free. It hit beautifully. Also, while I was drilling the carb hole, it cracked, so I had to make it giant! You can see it down the bottom, it's got red tape around it to match the rest, and because it was all sharp, but the main point is, accidentally making the shotty twice as big means this thing clear nearly instantly! It's great, that whole top chamber can be empty, and as soon as you lift your thumb a TONNE of percolated smoke just shoots up it. EPILOGUE: The guy was really happy with his fancy new bong, which he DID go on to show his friends, and enjoy continued use out of. Enter 'The Enigma'. It had been a while since we'd made anything, and I saw these 2 bottles for $1.85 each, so bought them without knowing what I wanted to do with them. This was an improv design just to try and make a simple double chamber bong. What happened was, and still is, a mystery. This thing hits like CRAZY! You honestly need to experience to fully get it. This has destroyed 3 or 4 visitors that went into it not expecting the power. It is called The Enigma, because no one knows how it works so well! Probably the most unique thing about it is it has it's own permanent cone piece. We found it at a little shop, just a metal cone with a handle, so simulate a bowl to lift off I guess. So, it must have something to do with the smooth shape of the bottles going up to the neck, but this thing shoots smoke deeper than you thought you could take it, and it shoots it QUICK! As soon as you lift the cone, it's GONE, into you whether you want it to be or not. Like I said, it's a visitor killer. One guy that comes here, he is a very timid smoker, he got brave... that was the end of him for a good 20 minutes, after taking the biggest hit of his life. It doesn't make you cough until after you exhale, because it just puts it so deep so quickly, you honestly don't even have time to react. This one is a definite permanent piece, and we use this nearly every session.
This is the culmination of all my current experience. Again, it has been a while since we made something cool, and we had just bought a little glass ash catcher I found in this awesome smoke shop an hour away. It had a glass stem with an elbow bend in it. Now, we make most bongs with the thing stems, mainly because I have a drill piece that drills a perfect hole for the grommits to fit, so this meant it was only going to fit in 1 or 2 bongs. 1 that it would fit in was a ceramic one we have, a pig, called Kevin Bacon. So, I take it's stem out, go to rinse it out and clean it... and it slips, the tiniest bit, out of my hand and hits the bathroom sink in the perfect way to split the mouth piece off from the base. So, that's fucked up a $25 bong aswell as left me with this new chamber I can't use! The only thing for it: Making something to fit it! So, firstly I made the hole in the rainbow warrior bigger (The bottom bottle is expendable, and it's actually on it's second bottom now) for the thick stem fitting, and I was happy with that, as it made the rainbow warrior even crazier and better. But, I wasn't content. I wanted to make something for it... so I did... That perc is so sexy. My partner, Holly, found me these tiny little bottles in a 4 pack for $2! They're perfect, and they look so clean and professional! These will be my new percs instead of the M&M containers Now, before you say "Where's the glass ash catcher?!", it broke. I made the bong, colour coded it with matching tape and stuff, and was ready to stick the new chamber in. Thing is, new chamber had a blue stem, and we happened to have a spare green stem. So, in swapping out the stems, the new glass chamber broke! Turns out the glass is paper thin around the grommit, so it just cracked and a piece fell out when I tried to put the green stem in. It made me SO angry, but it's not all bad, because for the $15 I paid for the chamber I still got to keep 2 grommits, a stem, a cone and the glass elbow stem. So, I had this little blue bottle from a failed experiment (still to come) with the 2 holes already in those position, so I chucked together a new ash catcher as best I could. I went out and bought a matching green bottle, which also meant I could start new holes from scratch. So, I made the ash catcher, did some very slight 'designing' with the black tape, and here is the finished product: I'm just setting up a new youtube profile, so I can post some vids soon!
This is my Cointreau bong! It's an awesome piece to show people. It's out of action at the moment as the bowl ended up breaking, but it goes pretty hard when it's working This was just an all round failure. The fitting for the grommet wasn't air tight, I couldn't ever get the perc air tight and to stop leaking, and the mouth piece was something I tried to make, tried to melt the top of another bottle upside down on top so it made like a funnel around your mouth. it just didn't work. Nothing about this bong worked, and now it's dead The seams on this weren't air tight. Had to use a heap of glue and shit, so much that it absorbed all the fumes and shit permanently. It never stopped leaking anyway after all that, so yeah just another big failure A failed experiment. Was meant to be a double hitter, light both cones at once. It worked, just not as well as it should have. It didn't seem to give you a hit the size of 2 hits, which was the only point of it, so it was scrapped. annoyingly, it's a unique design, so all the extra holes in it mean those bottles can't be used (well, correction, one of those blue ones it what I used for the ash catcher, but like i said, I had to work with the already made holes) Hahahahaha Holly made this one. just make a long sliding stem for it, the holes were already done! Pretty funny, you draw directly from his ass. You can also spin it around, and blow you hit back through the drunk, so all the smoke then comes flying out his ass. Tell me this isn't hilarious after a few cones
Ok, and lucky last: This is my latest masterpiece. 2 percolators, steady base for good balance (Green one tips over SO easily), and it hits like a monster. This thing is like the enigma's older brother that's been in prison for 10 years, it's punishing. The percolators break down the smoke in size, but not much in smoothness, as in it makes the smoke so thin it travels REALLY fast, but it's a bit harsh too. Basically, you hit this monster and you blow out a BIG cloud. It's great. I call it the Blue Bottle, because it STINGS! Gonna paint a blue bottle on it with tentacles coming all down the sides. Well yeah, that's it for now! I'm gonna get a few videos up soon and I'll post those. Feel free to ask me any questions etc. I'm more than willing to help anyone who wants to copy any of these designs. Thanks for having a look at my collection!
oh my god dude those are so good. you could honestly sell some of them. like market them as home-made quality, but also really cool and original pieces. and all limited edition. go make some money. maybe that was a stupid idea, actually. nevermind. don't listen to me.
Well, it's not too far off the truth... I've been thinking about making a catalogue up with pictures of them, explanations of their bits, and a price, and giving them to some dealers and people around. The only problem is, they're held together by blutack and electrical tape, so are anything but permanent. They cost between $7 - $15 to make, so I'd have to ask $25 - $35 to make it worth it.... but would people pay that much for platic bottles stuck together? The other idea I had tho was painting and more designing. I've been told people hang on to unique looking pieces, even if they hit like crap (which mine don't! haha).

Some pretty badass peices man. That hookah looks like it would be pretty awkward to hit with others. Everyones faces would be like 2 inchs apart.
