My homemade 'Buddha Bong'

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by BENhemian, Dec 8, 2010.

  1. I recently went to upgrade from a plastic bottle with a hose for a bong, to a nice bong that I'll look after. I went to buy one, but that were like $55 dollars and I thought I could make a nice custom one for cheaper.

I chose a beer bottle with a Buddha on it, Lucky Beer. I went to the hardware store and got irrigation tubing for the chamber, a galvanized reducer socket, and liquid nails. I got my piece from the internet, and went with a bonza because they are not common here is Adelaide, so it was a unique touch.

Using a glass drill bit, I carefully made little drill holes in a circle along the neck, until it was weak enough to crack along the drill marks I'd made. It took me several beers to get this right, and before I decided to use the glass drill bit I tried some other methods recommended around the internet. Let me tell you, most of the suggestions turned out to be useless.
This was the most time consuming part, but hey, I got to drink a couple of beers at least...

I then made a hole with the glass drill bit for the stem. I used liquid nails to secure the galvanized socket reducer and stem. Silicon wouldn't have worked as it doesn't act as a good adhesive. The liquid nails was also airtight enough, that I didn't need silicone to finish the seal.

With boiling water I manipulated the vinyl piping to make a chamber.

I had a piece of mesh for ice, but it made emptying the bong difficult as the mesh caught gunk. The ice just falls into the water sooner now.

Why thank-you. The Buddha smokes like a champion also, which is the most important aspect.

I do have a question about the bong that I hope someone can answer.
From the ice sitting on the socket and melting down, the thread in the socket has rusted.
Does this pose any great health threat to me and my friends smoking? I know rust wouldn't be good, but there isn't any heat or combustion at the point of rust, to make me think I'm getting fumes or anything.
The only issue would be if the smoke does anything.

    I've attached some pictures
The first one is how the socket looked originally
