monkey/twistable pipe help

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by atomicbong68, Apr 15, 2012.

  1. I went online and saw this cool pipe called a monkey, or twister, pipe. I thought it would be a good idea to try and make it and I'm dripped to how the twisting mouthpiece stays connected to the airway and still spins.

  2. I dunno man. Supernatural awesomeness of physics perhaps? Probly not, but hey, it'd be cool right?

  3. Yea man, I know. But, its weird. There's like one screw and that's it, how does smoke get from the bowl to mouthpiece? Who knows? Who knows?

  4. Well, I'm thinking it could be from you inhaling? I mean, makes sense, it's not like if you keep inhaling and the smoke goes into the air its gonna just spread out like no other.

  5. Could be, but I was thinking that the pipe that links the actual bowl to air way connection and the mouthpiece section could somehow act as a hinge. I just don't know how to replicate that

  6. See this is what I'm talking about

the top half that rotates is like an upside down spoon pipe, where the opposite end to the mouthpiece is always in contact with the other side. so maybe the two halves are female ends (inlet) with a simple round connector in between. ill draw a picture

  8. So your saying that is a two way female connector that, because of the way its on the wood or acrylic, acts as a hinge or pivot as well?

  9. I mean this is my thought.

]==[ and because the wood is in the middle, it just turns, like an axel with both ends blocked to the wheel can't get off

  10. sorry but the pipe is a 2 way MALE connector, the pencil analogy was confusing, uhh you can make it so that there is like a little chamber at the point where the two halves meet, and make a metal or even wood round double male connector, with a slit in one side so it leads to the mouthpiece. its hard to explain

  11. hmmmm but the picture you provided seems like it is just a screw that goes through the middle of it. that could work, it would be easier too. just make one half of the pipe look like a spoon pipe (looking down at it) like this ==O, and the other (bowl) like this O=O, and put a screw where the two O shapes are

  12. I know right.... Well I was thinking making a tube with the two ends belled outward to be bigger than the hole they are in on both the mouthpiece and bowl end, that way it stays and turns. For the mouthpiece, drill through to a point were the belled end meets

  13. You know what, I like you're idea much better....

  14. ill draw a new picture lol

  15. you can kinda see it in the picture above, post #7

  16. Well, my concern about that is will it be air tight, or at least some so that when I take a hit, the smoke doesn't seep out where they come together. That could be fixed with a tight screw, but would it still turn?

  17. you could get a rubber stopper and put it between, and probably turn, i dont know man, props for taking this on, its really difficult!

  18. Thanks, yea, I don't usually do DIYs but this really struck me and I wanted to really pit some quality into it in hopes it will last a while. I was thinking either a direct tube somehow or a chamber pipe on the bowl end. Like, above there is the bowl and outlet and just a hollow middle, its the easiest

  19. Maybe add a carb or some vent holes and some cool design on the top. You know, being that the hollow part will be wood with no liner, it might be a pain to clean and get the smell of smokeables out of it. There again another problem, how to find a liner or would you need one?
