I have seen some new metal downstems advertised that come with adapter pieces to get the right length for your specific water pipe. They are considerably more expensive than glass ones, but I’ve broken quite a few glass downstems handling them. They are quite fragile and difficult to clean without breaking. Anyone use the metal ones? If so, we’re you satisfied?
Downsides to it would be that the downstem, especially titanium, would conduct heat well that if you are using a cheap and thin glass, it could eventually result in breakage of the bong due to continuous heat stress put on the bong. This would be in an extreme situation but yeah. Other than that, make sure it is not a cheap downstem that is going to leach metals into your bong water or worse, smoke.
This is about as high tech as it gets in aus. Alloy pipe, brass cone piece. I suppose it's better than a garden hose and gatorade bottle.
Is stainless steel a non ferrous metal? (askinglot.com) Is stainless steel a non ferrous metal? Non-ferrous metals by definition are metals, including alloys, that does not contain iron in appreciable amounts. So stainless steels are ferrous metals. Important non-ferrous metals include aluminium, copper, zinc, titanium, lead, tin, nickel , and alloys such as brass.
Ok guy. You better go warn everybody. Here's your fist stop, https://thestainlessdepotcompany.com/collections/drinkware
Pardon me good sir, I meant to say Non-Ferromagnetic of which there are many grades of stainless that are.
That's what i used to use now were seeing more glass on glass. Never had issues with brass and alloy.
I never had a problem with the metal. The rubber grommet on the bottom of the bong pictured does leave a water line where the rubber meets glass.
Thanks everyone… One that I was looking at is called Titan-Stem. You can google it if you like. Claims it’s made out of “aircraft-grade aluminum”. Hmmm…
aircraft grade doesnt mean much of anything. Even metals like brass or copper tarnish and taste bad. Aluminum oxidizes but it does take a very, very long time.
They have a knockoff (kinda) of the Titan downstem on Aliexpress for around $5. I ordered one to keep as an emergency backup and they're pretty dope for the price. Also being able to change the length on the fly is cool.
About 12 years ago? i bought my first acrylic bong /w metal stem from grasscity, before there was as U.S. location, a a full metal/cheap wood configurable pipe. I'm alive. Never will I ever do that again, but I would recommend the Invincipoles and/or INVINCIBOWL (or the combo for cheaper.) I dont own them yet, but Friday I will.
