Absolutely not! Several years ago I was in Nairobi Kenya and I found a Meerschaum pipe that looked perfect for smoking dope. It was real small, about the size of typical glass bowls but it had a long stem. It might have been designed for smoking opium because it was too small for tobacco. I used it for years then I let a friend borrow it for a few days because I was on a T break. He smoked something good, passed out, then his retarded dog ate the meerschaum part and chewed the stem. The owner was as retarded as his dog (typical). I've searched for years, around the world and never found anything like it again. Today....I'd pay $500 for a pipe like that. Most meerschaum pipes are simply too big for pot...unless you grow it, but the taste and smoothness is unmatched by anything else, even glass.

Never clean a meerschaum bowl with anything other than a dry pipe cleaner or pipe reamer. Meerschaum is a very porous material and will absorb whatever moisture it comes in contact with which will interfere with the flavor of your smoke. These pipes benefit heavily from having tobacco smoked out of them. My suggestion for preventative maintenance would be to pack pipe tobacco in the bottom of the bowl and pack a bowl of weed on top of that (most meerschaum bowls are pretty deep), this way the tobacco underneath the weed acts as a sort of filter to catch resin.
