Welcome all to my indoor/organic grow journal. Been spending too much time lurking here lately so figured the time would be better spent keeping my own journal. Kind of a late start but we all love flowering phase right? Anyway let's get into it, hope you all enjoy. Background - This is my 4th grow ever and first 100% legal one so I'm super pumped. First 3 have all been pretty decent but could have been better so I am still learning as I go. Hoping this will be the best yet. Genetics - White Rhino from Nirvana and Banana Cake from local shop Tent - 2' deep x 4' wide x 5' tall Lights - Roleadro 800watt COB and Roleadro 400watt COB, actual power usage for both is right around 600watts Air - 8" passive intake, 4" 195 CFM exhaust and a small oscillating fan inside Soil - 50% Ocean Forest and 50% Roots Organics with nothing else added. Nutrients - GS Plant Foods Organic Liquid Fish & Kelp Blend, Fox Farms Big Bloom and Epsoma Organic Start - Also now with soil ammendment mix Training - Nebula's mainlining/manifolding technique
Group Shot White Rhino 1 White Rhino 2 WR 2 showing manifold Banana Cakes Organic Nutes Notes: - Rhinos are in 7gal fabric pots - Lights are 15" from tops currently - Last fed 10/24 with 1 tbsp of each organic fertilizer and 1 tsp of unsulphered molasses per gallon. 1 gallon per plant - I have not PH'd my water once and dont plan to - I use tap water and I dont let it sit at all - This is my first time ever using bottled nutrients/fertilizer, normally grow in homemade soil with ammendments. If you have any questions or comments please feel free to ask.
Thanks Gorilla. My biggest concern right now is if the bottled organic nutrients are going to be enough to support decent bud development. Can't wait till after winter when I can get a real living soil going.
Rhinos were last fed 10-28 not 10-24 but the amounts were correct. Also here are some african marigolds and chrysanthemums that were started with the girls but had to find a new home. They are under some small and cheap 45watt red/blue led panels and the marigolds have been topped for 6 mains. Rootbound as all hell, but hoping they will still flower for me.
Well bad news but hopefully fixed and a lesson learned. Was checking on the girls today and noticed my first signs of a deficiency. Seems to have sprung up overnight as I did not see it yesterday, but could have missed it. My guess is calcium deficiency, nothing was added to the soil to add calcium and none of the organic bottles have any calcium. Some might argue Magnesium, but I have added epsom salts to a couple feedings so my money's on calcium. My solution was the same either way, added a dry organic ammendment mix that I have. Will go into more detail as to what's in it later but it includes both dolomitic lime and oyster shell so should do the trick. I know I probably could have gone and got an organic bottle of cal/mag somewhere but it was easier to use what I have.
Was going to wait till week 3 to defol but decided to give them a clean up today. Will probably still do another defol on week 3. Anyway figured I'd update with before and after pics as well as what's in my ammendment mix. Before: After: Like I said I am heavy handed with the defol, be interesting to see how it pans out. Ammendment Mix: Ecoscraps Fresh Start Espoma Gardentone Epsoma Garden Lime Espoma Rock Phosphate Whitney Farms Blood Meal DTE Alfalfa Meal DTE Crab Meal DTE Bone Meal DTE Kelp Meal DTE Neem Seed Meal DTE Oyster Shell DTE Azomite Powder May have forgot a couple but that's what I could remember. Moved last year and rather then pack all these, I mixed them all together in a rubbermaid tub and packed that. Not sure on quantities but a partial 4-5lb bag/box of everything besides the Ecoscraps. That I got clearanced at $2.30 a 4lb bag so I got 6. Also wanted to note that it seems to have sorted my calcium issue, did not see it progress at all since yesterday and plants are still showing great growth and vigor. Banana Cakes got bent over as well.
Update - Day 10 Flower White Rhino - Both girls are looking good, calcium issue has definitely cleared up. Seems like stretch is slowing down now and they are starting to turn the focus towards budset. More pistils every day and the smell is already crazy strong. Gave them 1 gallon of plain water each earlier today when pictures were taken. Banana Cake - Both got a defol today as well as the top bent back down and plain water. Neither plant shows any sign of preflowers yet but nodes are starting to alternate so shouldn't be too long.
Update - Day 12 Flower The girls are really sucking up the water now. Had to give both Rhinos another gallon of water each today. Was brave and gave them 1 tbsp of the GS Plant Foods Fish & Kelp as well as 1 tbsp of Big Bloom per gallon. Also had to raise the lights another inch to stay at 12" from the highest top. Even though the COBs are nowhere near as bad as the blurple lights, I thought it would be nice to pull the girls out for pictures tonight. Took some with and some without the flash. Enjoy White Rhino 1 White Rhino 2 Banana Cakes
Had to move the light above White Rhino 2 another 1" up. Hoping she stops the stretch soon, currently highest top is 22" above soil line.
Update - Day 15 Flower Both White Rhinos got another small trim today. Took a few more fan leaves and cleaned up a lot of the lower budsites. WR1 got a half gallon of molasses water and WR2 got a full gallon. BC1 and BC2 are both showing female and trying to start budding. Pics are taken after trim. WR1 WR2 BC1&2 Group Shot
Update - Day 18 Flower Had to raise both lights again today and that puts them at max height. They are at 13" from the tallest cola, praying the stretch stops and I dont end up with light bleached/burned tops. Ladies are starting to get trichs and are looking/smelling amazing. Both WRs got a gallon of water today w/ 1tsp molasses, 1tbsp Big Bloom and 1 tbsp Espoma. WR1 WR2 Baby bud starting to get frosty already
Update - Day 23 Flower Tried something new today and made a homemade fertilizer from banana peels. Blended cut up peels and water and then strained out solids. Each WR got 2 cups of this mixed into a gallon of plain water. Both WR also got a small trim and the BC's got a major trim. Lights are 12" from tops and maxed out. WR1 WR2 Group Shot
Update - Day 26 Flower Made the banana peel fertilizer again and used 2 cups per gallon. To this I also added 1 tsp molasses, 1 tbsp Big Bloom and a pinch of Epsom salt per gallon. Didnt have the motivation to pull them out today so sorry for the pink pics.
Really surprised this journal isn’t gettin more attention all your plants look healthy and you’ve done a great job with training.

Me too, but I'm not sweating it. Just fun to keep a journal and try new things. Thanks for the compliment on the ladies, they do seem to be healthy and I'm pretty pleased with how the training came out. My biggest downfall is lights right now, I know these cheap COBs are going to produce some nice buds but I'm not happy with the efficiency. Pulling aprox. 600w from the wall and could probably get the same amount of light now with a better spread for around 150-300w. If I want anywhere near 1g per watt I will need to pull 550g min off these ladies and that's just not going to happen, not even close.
