Happy December Everyone! Hello all, it's good to be back and I apologize for the unplanned lapse in content here at the Glass Otaku forum here on Grasscity.com. Look forward to new and exciting content all this month right here! starting today Coming up this weekend in Boulder, Colorado USA the glass artist Merc will be unveiling his one of a kind Pre Assembled this weekend on the 7th and 8th from 7pm to 2am. This event will feature live music, snowboarding demos, as well as a glass gallery featuring some of the country's most sought-after artists. With just a 10$ admission fee you'll be able to view/purchase works from: Zach Puchowitz ELBO Coyle Saki Bomb Joel Halen Seath Merc Brandon Martin Adam G. N8 Doshworld Hilltree Brian Schmitt 2BA JRed JOP! K-Sass ....and probably more Not to mention you will be able to meet some of them too! One such piece that will be on display at the event is the collaboration rig by Lord and ELBO. Themed after everyones favorite, The Flintstones this fully-sculptural waterpipe is tremendous example of a successful collaboration. Let's take a look at each of the artists style and see how they brought it into the collaboration. ELBO is an artist currently located in Massachusetts, USA and is one of the biggest rising names in the artistic pipe realm. Having studied studio glass at the Tyler School or Art in Philadelphia it wasn't until he met Philly legends like Zach Puchowitz, Slinger, JAG, Snic and JOP! did he begin making pipes (more info about elbo here). His most current line of work titled "Classic Elbo" is a an exciting play on Dinosarus and their instrumental role in the creation of fossil fuels. Jsyn Lord aka LORD is an artist working out of Rochester, NY. Recently LORD has been making major moves in the realm of functional glass with his "construction zone" themed works which feature his signature "geometric" glass design. We don't know much more about LORD, but he is scheduled to be interviewed by myself very soon. LORD & Zach Puchowitz Collaboration "Personal Lift Station The two artists took their signature lines of work and blended them together in an exciting "prehistoric" symphony. Made to resemble the crane Fred Flintstone would use at the quarry he works at. This piece is an exciting collaboration and shows just what good can happen when two great artists come together to create something. By thinking outside the box the two artists achieved a form that is thought provoking as well as nostalgic. The twine used to tie the "riders seat dome" is only for looks as well. I can't wait to see what other amazing works will be on display at the event. If you are in Colorado for the 7th and 8th I suggest you try to make it out to this first-of-it's-kind event. For me being able to see this piece in person is well worth the trip. Here is more information about the event.
