If you don't mind lightweight glass that has bubbles in it with joints that may be a little off center or a downstem that sits crooked then by all means by the china glass. But the roor will be absent all these albeit minor defects and will last a lifetime. Also if you shop around a roor could be had at a reasonable price. Also an 18.8 mm bowl is going to rip way harder than a 14mm or less any day of the week.
RooR isn't expensive glass. The same piece I've owned for almost 30 years is on sale right now for $177. Maybe for some, that's considered a high-status piece.
One of cats broke one of my Roor tech bongs today. My fault for leaving the door open to the closet by mistake. I'm gonna get it repaired.
I see that now. This looks like a line just for that market... 3.5mm thickness. I wonder how much just for the Roor decal? LOL
Yeah they are bit expensive. I own several different brands of beaker bongs like this one, but I must say this piece is by far my favorite and daily driver. There is something about the way it feels in my hand and how it rips.
I was just making a point that some seem to want to argue that status is the primary reason for paying an outrageous price when there are equal quality products readily available. That said I have little or no need of "the status of owning a Roor" whether I own one or not. Having once been in an apprenticeship in an industrial scientific glass shop many decades ago, I can also say that in and of themselves, neither the country of origin nor the abuse of apprentices has anything to do with the quality of the glass. Most quality manufacturers are capable of producing both high quality pieces and trash. It's whether or not the seconds go into the barrel to be remelted or get sold on the low end market.
Is roor not made in China ? Ive seem cheapo knock offs in stores before . I wouldn’t pay $400+ for the brand but some people love it .
Roor is made in USA now and some are still made in Germany. They are great and not all of them are $400+. Plus they do have good Black Friday sales if you can wait.
The folks stating that you are paying for a name have it right. You are paying for the Roor name and what It stands for. When buying a Roor piece, you are buying high quality borosilicate glass that is handmade by a highly trained glass artist. This glass artist gives each piece he our she makes the attention to detail and stringent quality control that is required to produce such pieces that are produced in low volumes. This is what you are paying for when you buy a Roor piece. just_some_other_stoner is spot on with their reason as to why Roor is worth the price. Someone mentioned buying cheap Chinese made pieces instead of a Roor. What about supporting an American glass blower instead? At least this American glass blowers piece won’t be mass produced on a machine and actually helps a fellow American put food on his plate. I read plenty of responses complaining about the cost of a Roor piece, but not one about simply saving up money until they were able to afford the piece they wanted. Saving isn’t hard. A Roor straight tube starts at less than $65 and tops out at around $470 on the high side, with sixteen models total between the price range. A Roor beaker starts at around $140 and goes up to around $435 with seven models total between this price range. You can customize the piece from there and add cost to the final product or not. The choice is yours. Roor also sells more expensive collaborations and customs. The “Roor’s are too expensive for what they are” comments are not well supported with any sort of information as to why, that can be substantiated. The OP asked if they were worth the price not would you buy one if you had the money. I am very happy with my custom German made Roor set, and I have zero regrets about my purchase. If you want a Roor, the cost should be worth it to you. I will be buying another custom made Roor in the future.
