Ideas on how to make a chillum

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by s3v loves you, Dec 25, 2011.

  1. I would like to purchase a chillum, but ordering online isn't an option and my local headshop doesn't have any.

Would a pen tube with a socket on one end work?

    Any other ideas?

  3. Wood
    Metal barrel from bb gun

  4. My friend actually made a super sick home made one... He basically found a long wooden rod about the thickness of a cigar, cut it down to about the length of this finger, drilled a small hole all the way through, and then carved one side down into a bowl shape... Went down to the LHS and got a pack of screens for a dollar and it was pretty sick.... Me an all my buds signed it who toked out of it, but it stank and was apparently a bitch to clean

Edit: a pen tube with a socket? What are you 12?

Lol, no. It's just the simplest thing I could think of

  6. Well, if you're looking for something temporary and homemade, I have used these a lot when I am in an absolute pinch. But I make one like once every two years, I never need it lol.

    Directions:

    1. Grab yourself a big yellow highlighter. You know the one I'm talking about. About as thick as your thumb, commonly found in the "sharpie" brand. Picture included below:

    2. Take off the cap, and save it. Also take off the white endcap at the other end of the marker. You're going to need pliers to pull it out. Otherwise, you can melt or drill a hole in the center of the white cape and use something (such as a screwdriver) to lever it out. Regardless, get that white cap out of there. Toss it, you won't need it later.

    3. Pull out the yellow nib (the part that actually touches the paper when you're writing) and the yellow spongy filler material. The nib can easily be pulled out with pliers, otherwise dig it out with a knife or something. The filler normally just drops out the white cap end after you remove the nib.

    4. Wash out the marker. There will be traces of yellow highlighter ink in there, and nobody likes the taste of that, so wash it out.

    5. Find a socket that wedges perfectly in the white cap end. If you have a socket set, you can easily find one that fits in there. You should not need any glue or adhesive, if you find the right socket size it will just wedge in there perfectly.

    6. Put a screen or small pebble inside the socket to keep the herb from sucking though. Tinfoil can be used, but should be avoided if possible. A carb/shotgun can be added (if desired) by simply drilling or melting a hole in the body of the highlighter close to the socket-bowl.

The cap (which you saved) can be used on the writing end of the sharpie just as you normally would to prevent pocket lint, dirt, etc. from getting in the main chamber of the chillum. Cleaning is the same as always, ISO and salt.

Hope this helps, it normally takes me about 5 minutes or less to do and is an ideal, non-toxic home-made smoking piece that does the job well.

  7. Take a jenga block, you know from the game jenga. And drill a bowl sized thing then a smaller drill connecting it. My buddy made these all the time and it was awesome

I made a chillum today. I used a piece of flame maple I cut from a piece of firewood. I cut a block 5 1/2" long, 1" x 1" at one end, 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" at the other. I used a chisel and a spokeshave to round it, then I sanded it. I used a dremel with a cut-off wheel and a knife to create the bowl (1" in diameter, 3/4" deep, carved into the wide end), and drilled through to create the channel through which the smoke is drawn. Finally, I used a few matches to carbonize the bowl.

glass is always better than plastic... plastic is jank and doesn't last as long.

you could take a glass bottle and shatter the bottom, smooth it out, use it as the mouthpiece.
there should be some sort of cap on the other side, so make a hole through that and put your socket in there.
*or if you have a big enough socket just take the cap off and shove it in.

examples: vodka bottles for a bigger chillum or starbucks bottles for smaller
