that looks like it could be brass, how heavy does it feel? Depending on how long you've had the wood i wouldn't worry about drying it more. I've never had problems with my bowls burning but then again I made them from mahogany
Its relatively heavy for its size. Yeah, yours is a hardwood, the pipe I made is pine which burns so easy. I know I should make one out of hardwood, but I wanna see how this one smokes first. If its brass will it be ok? EDIT: Can you post some pictures of yours?
There is a chance it would be safe but honestly i wouldn't try it, a lot of brass has lead mixed in to make it easier to work with and you have to make sure its clean. Coppers a definite no, i would try to look for something else
Ok, I know this part is made by browning, but I have no clue what kind of a part this is, and what it is for. I doubt it has lead in it, but if I can find out what part I'm sure I'll be able to find out whether or not it does.
Try holding the bowl part over a lighter, it shouldnt catch on fire right away, im pretty sure if you get a torch lighter and go over the bowl area slowly, the wood will start to harden up and be safe to use, right? Anyways worth a shot. You could go to Home Depot and ask if it is safe to use (for tobacco use only of course! ) and if not what kind of wood would be safe to use
I am going to try that. I've been sanding off the surface the best I can atm, and I can see that yellow buttery color the article was describing. Haha. I might just try to do that. :>
Yeah i know that old warriors used to fire harden their spears to make them more deadly, so why wouldnt that work for a pipe to? Im sure a smoke shop could pass on some advice to.
Haha yeah. I don't know why it wouldn't work. I've got my vinegar and h2o2. Imma try that for the bowl. If I can use the metal bowl, I will have no more worries. :>
Well good luck to you man, I always wanted to do somthing like that but i could never figure out how to make the hole in the stem...
