socket bowl, plastic 1.75 liter smirnoff bottle, brass tube with holes punched in it and a partially crushed end as a diffuser downstem (sorry for the huge images)
I normally use bic pen tubes as the downstem for a homemade, and I have plans on turning the bowl into a slide and neatening up the bottom of the downstem once I have the tools.
i kind of made a small transparent grommet with hot glue its air tight but the downstem is still removable
I would say that down stem is on the same quality level as smirnoff. Smirnoff is not a fancy liquor at all, nor is it a high end vodka. Overall I really like the homemade. I know there are some metal pen tubings that you can possibly use for a downstem also.
i think he meant because it's a glass bottle instead of a shitty plastic water bottle, not that smirnoff was fancy lol. could be wrong though.
the socket is attached to a brass tube, brass is a safe metal no plastic involved other then the tape which is air tight sealed off from the smoke/airflow and also in a place where it's exposed to no heat. The socket on that is way bigger in person so it really doesn't heat up.
