Hey every one! This is my homemade vaporizer, this is the 2nd one I have made. I have never seen a design like it or method of how it works so i like some peoples input. This is made from plywood, a Brass fitting, plastic tubbing, stainless steel and last but not least a margarita glass! Check it out! I made a short youtube video showing it working with pipe tobacco [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HGQ9DKHpJ1g]YouTube - Homemade Vaporizer[/ame] Please Tell me what you think,
This is one of the best homemade vapes I've seen. The only thing that might be hard is finding and holding the optimal temperature. But if you get the height just right, you should be able to work that out. It's a cool design though, and probably a lot cheaper than most vapes.
The way you inhale the vapor is with the tubing, the tubing it self is connected to the brass fitting you see when i lift up the vaporizer. The brass fitting goes trough the wood and is connected to the straw that you can see on top.
That is awesome. If you could post the distance between the wick and the bowl, I'll probably set about making my own (far more ghetto) version. Also, what's with the brass? Is there any reason having the plastic tube go straight into the vapor area wouldn't work?
Great job, looks like it works well. I wonder if a 100w light bulb or higher with a dimmer could work? I think depending on the placement of the 100w bulb, the temperature can get as high as 477 deg F, which is more than hot enough to vape with. I may have to try that, lol.
Yeah id like to find a more constant way of heating the bowl and taking temp readings, im going to see if i can get a Meat Thermometer that can go into the 500+ so i can figure best method of heating I am also considering of trying to use a hookah coal, to heat up the bowl. With this comes the trouble of supporting the coal, maybe with tin foil or some other way. ( btw the bowl i used can be bought at wall-mart for a dollar, they are stainless steal, and form what i read its one of the better metals to use for something like this you get 4 of them.)
With the candle i try not to let the flame touch the metal bowl, figurer it get to hot, id say less then a cm from the tip of the flame is enough heat. If you watch people use light bulb vapes you can get a rough idea how this works. But atm this set up needs some fine tuning as far as a heat source goes for consiable . ~ As far as the brass part its just a more reliable set up for me, the tube tends to curl up too, plus its plastic, i rather not have that get heated up because of melting issues. The tube that you can see up top is made of paper. But if there is no real reason you cant just run the hose directly inside.
You know what ? I have had a revaluation on how to make this a perfect rig... Needs two things that are fairly cheap (under 20) 1) Oil candle, so their is no variance on the hight of the flame. Issue i have faced with the candle melting... 2) Get a grill thermometer, to get the temperature right. These cheap things can gauge up too 500-700F
cool design man ive been making my own with the old soldering iron trick works pretty well but i have been using a bit of a shoddy bowl and it seems a bit close to the top of the jar cos looooads of like honey resin oil stuff is collecting on top the glass it smells delicious! lol but im making it better all the time a bottle neck air intake around the soldering iron directly though the bowl is the next part so all the air and heat is drawn over the herb as well as it heating up to a temprature (dimmer switch and themometer) pretty similar to the one on the website build-your-own-vaporizer.com, i find i can work the light bulb really well though just takes a lil practice on the distance for the flame and how to heat it up quickly and not burn it. ^-^
