Someone started a thread in real-life stories, which is the wrong section, but i'm gonna try to revive it over here. Post a pic/description of your pipe. First time building a homemade bong; built last night on a bet. Bowl is glass, everything else is homemade.
Yea, there are soooo many of these exact threads. I wouldn't use anything but safe metals or glass for the downstem, smoke is really hot, i wouldn't consider a plastic downstem safe. Great homemade though, i like the way you think!
Before they do, they should sticky the other one so this doesn't happen again EDIT: Kalec is the king of homemades. Where have you been man?
thank you sir, first try glad to see some appreciation. What would you use for a downstem? You can see in my pic i used a highlighter tube + cap (ink removed obv) and a hole at the top to slide in my bowl/stem.
I recommend buying a 14.5mm glass on glass downstem and bowl, it would probably run you anywhere from 10-20$+ depending on where you go and the quality of the glass. I would just get a cheap one. Adding a glass on glass downstem and bowl to your homemade will most definitely make it rip! and will make it safe without a doubt! You can use a 1/2 inch PVC adapter as a joint to hold the downstem in place on the bong 100% air tight. It will also allow you to remove your downstem anytime you want rather then gluing or taping it in place.
I just glued a PVC adapter into the side of the base of the bong at an angle and the glass downstem just slides in and stays 100% air tight. Here is is all together: And here it is broken down for travel:
