I'm at home during the summer and am planning on making a homemade bong with a percolator out of plastic bottles and a proper glass bowl. its either this or buy a small 30$ bong that will probably be half the size of a homemade bong and a lot harsher. Can someone tell me whether or not it would be bad to smoke out of a homemade plastic bong given that i dont use tinfoil or burn plastic?

edit: actually i have a pipe and the last time I made a bong i took the head off of the pipe and taped it onto a hollow highlighter and used that as a downstem and bowl. there was a ton of resin when i threw it out, but is this safe or no?

Plastic Bottles are composed of Carcinogenic Hydrocarbons, if combusted and inhaled. . . Well, you can finish the rest of that sentence.

However if the plastic bottle is used as a percolator, it should be fine as long as no part of the plastic melts from heat transference when inhaling.

Edit: Why not save yourself the trouble and just get a simple smoking apparatus

  3. There are dangers, but they tend to be very overhyped. So long as the heat source isnt near the plastic and there is sufficient material in the bong to cool the smoke, then plastic (food grade plastic rather. anything you can drink out of is going to be food safe) is completely harmless. If the smoke is extremely hot still when it touches that surface, then yes its not necessarily healthy (but not necessarily harmful either; it depends on what plastic it is and what temperature that plastic releases fumes)

When I've had to make homemades in the past, I would always use very thick plastic bottles with a very long glass downstem so that there was already a large amount of travel for the smoke before it even reached the water.
