Homemade Perc - I STILL DON'T GET IT...

It works by forcing the smoke through water to filter it. You have smoke, suction, and water in between. The smoke goes through the water because of the suction on the other end (made by by the user).

Now we can't just have a block of water suspended magically in our tubes, so we divide the tube into anothe chamber.

There must also be a hole for the smoke to go through.

And, since the laws of gravity still do apply, the water has to be prevented from flowing through the hole the smoke comes through.

The smoke comes up through the orange tube, and down into the green tubes (because you are pulling air through the whole assebly from the top).

The smoke is broken into small bubble by the slits in the green tubes, and is cooled and filtered (cleaned) by the water.

You can make them however you like, and there are different styles. The one pictured above is a "tree" perc, because of its resemblance to the branches of a tree.

To get the water in, you just pour it in, much the same way you would fill a standard water pipe.

You can make it out of a lot of thing you find at home, like bendy straws for example. Have the straws bent to that they rise above the water and bend down back into it.

Once you understand how it works, it becomes easier to make your own.

I suggest searching for somke home made percs and replicating them. I wil ltry to find some on GC and show you.

Here is a tutorial. You can apply that technique to a lot of situations, you could make an ash catcher/pre-cooler, or line up a bunch of those to create a multi-perced bong.

 

My question is, when you make a homemade perc bong, where does the carb go? Above or below the perc?

 

Well my howto was linked, but I've made all sorts of different homemade percolators... i find it a fun challenge to try and get really intricate with it. (I just finished a new style of tree percolator using a skinny pill bottle and pen tubes for the stems)

you just have to picture a normal bong with a perc design/shape wise and go for replication.

As for carbs on it... I always have slides, really, but I like to have my carb as close to the bowl as possible.

Thanks. Right now I'm making a perc bong out of 2 1.5 liter bottles, some polyethylene tubing and a hot glue gun. The polyethylene tubing is nice because unlike polystyrene (which most plastic pen grips are made out of) it isn't highly toxic when burned because it doesn't have styrene. Plus, polyethylene tubing can be bent which is a plus.
