Homemade Health Question

    So I'm trying to make a homemade bong so I bought steel piping and a steel wrench socket, as downstem and bowl respectively. Was wondering how I could get rid of possible hazards like rust protection. Any pointers?

    Take everything back and go buy some glass.

    If you really have an itch to make a home made then search this forum and you will find tons of stuff.

    Buy a cheap bottle of spray-on glaze. It's basically just plastic coating and it should keep your metal from having a chemical reaction with the air, moisture etc. Obviously check to see if it's heat resistant or toxic before you do this, I wouldn't want to be responsible for the results if it was...

    But then wouldn't that be burning plastic, thus making it just as dangerous?

    two red bars? you must be extra special. but anyways OP, you should have gone to a headshop and gotten a cheapo glass bong slide for $5. But since you didn't do that, there's really not many toxin-free ways of preventing rust, aside from keeping the metal dry.

    If you want a glass downstem and bowl for your home made bong just get a long glass chillum and bam! the bowl is still the bowl but the mouthpiece goes down into the water as a downstem. All glass, totally safe, air tight, cheep. I made a sweet bong out of a poster tube and my chillum last week but it was only good for one night until the cardboard got soggy haha but the good thing about the chillum downstem is when your done with your home made bong youve still got a chillum! good luck!

    In my opinion the only way to make a safe and quality homemade is to purchase a glass on glass bowl and downstem.

    You can find a plumbing part called a PVC Adapter, you want to buy a 1/2 inch one if you are going to use a 14.5 Gong downstem. The PVC adapter will work as the joint that holds the downstem in place on whatever homemade piece you have. With a 14.5 downstem a 1/2 inch PVC adapter will be nearly air tight.
