Homemade Bong Help

Discussion in 'DIY and Homemade' started by JORDANEast, Jan 18, 2010.

  1. Hey guys. I had a stroke of inspiration today. Some of you may have heard of a kind of water called VOSS. VOSS comes in a cylindrical glass bottle. I thought I would drill a hole in the side, take off the cap, and find some way to jerry-rig a downstem and bowl. Any ideas? My friend said I should use a drill bit specifically designed for glass. Is that a good idea? Any Ideas are appreciated.

  2. buy a 12mm female downstem, 12mm slide, grommet and o-ring. total cost: about 5 bucks. also a glass drill bit will make things easier. they are about $10.

  3. Great. I can most of that stuff at any headshop right? Except the drill bit. I could get that at Home Depot probably.

  4. you should be able to get all of it at a headshop (except the bit) and home depot will have the bit.

when drilling, do so slowly, and at an angle if possible. if the glass gets hot, STOP and let it cool. some like to do the whole drilling process over running water.

  5. Does the drill bit need to be 12 mm as well?

  6. as close to it as possible, perhaps a bit smaller. the time i did it i already had a glass bit and it was kind of small. i just made the hole and widened it out little by little until the grommet fit snug and the female/stem just squeezed through, completely airtight.

with drilling into a glass bottle its a hit or miss kind of thing. your best bet to make a very good hole is to put a large strip of duct tape where you are going to put the hole and drill though the tape. the tape will help prevent the glass from shattering or cracking when your drilling.

  8. they come in glass? haha, me and a buddy made a makeshift bong out of a plastic voss bottle and it was awesome. I'm going to have to keep my eyes open haha

  9. make sure you get the dimension of the rubber seal before you buy the bit. plus, ive heard that in addition to keeping it under water while drilling, fill it with sand too.
