Hey guys, I THINK I have a 14.5 joint downstem, it's been a year or so since I bought it and am finally trying to put a little home made bong together, I have many bongs, but I feel like one I put together myself will have a special place on my shelf. my question is, how do i know what size bit to use for drilling? I know it needs to be a diamond tip bit but I just need to know the size so I can buy it! haven't found much info on it. Here's a video I posted on youtube if my question wasn't very clear. I just bought a diamond bit at home depot for this purpose. It was $20 in the drill bit section with the tile bits. I is made by Ridgid and looks like a mini hole saw with grit instead of teeth. I used a 1/2" bit and then had to open the hole up a bit with a stone metalgrinding bit. (Submerge the glass in water to keep it cool.)$20 bucks is a lot for a drill bit but it was 100x easier and faster than the carbide spade style bits I have used in the past. Well worth it.
Thanks for the responses everyone, and I hope you sort out your leg issue, bro! I went to OSH yesterday and got a bit that would do, unfortunately all they had was the spade bit, so I will be dropping another 20 on the kind you describe when I find one, but this one did the job okay. Definitely is NOT a perfect circle, but luckily the strange grommetish thing I have (not a grommet, difficult to describe.) made it all fine and dandy. So I now have a brand new mini bong have not smoke out of it yet, picking up a quarter a little later on today, and will be naming it upon smokage, honestly, this was a pointless question, I was stoned, thought about it and just measure my fucking downstem. Thank you! I'll be posting a "Family" thread/video possibly later today (showing my collection.)
