Hi Guy doesn't make a lot of bongs with built in GTJ joints because they create a weak spot on the bong - if the joint breaks, your bong is toast. It's smarter to buy a gtj slide stem (grommet connection to the bong, gtj connection to the bowl), because this way if your joint breaks, you just have to replace the stem.
Glass on glass fittings don't determine the quality of the bong or materials, it's just a type of fitting. So, there are lots of good quality non gtj bongs, and there are lots of shitty bongs with no gtj, and there are lots of shitty bongs with gtj. Quality depends on the glassblower, materials, and of course personal preference - which I get is your argument here. Some people prefer slide chokes to gtj surprisingly enough. Hi Guy is a great place to find a huge selection of tubes that are high quality and not gtj.
sure if you say so. I've yet to see a high end tube with a grommet. Sovereignty ,toro ,mobious, dirty Rico, illadelph, salt, dcs glass, just to name a few high end glassblowers. Not one without a glass joint! Quality tubes must mean a whole different thing in your neck of the woods. Name me a couple high end tubes over $500 that use rubber grommet still?
i am really curious to see if this beauty is still alive almost 10 years later. i’ve wanted one like that. a plasma bong.
