General CLEANING Thread - Bong cleaning, odor control and everything else cleaning!

Discussion in 'Other Smoking Accessories' started by paws13, Sep 8, 2012.

  1. I had a look around the forums but I couldn't find another thread that answered my question so I thought I would create a space dedicated to sharing the best methods for cleaning equipment, cleaning up spills, getting rid of bong water smell, odor control.

I would love to hear some good ways to get stains/smells out of carpet from bong water and dirt.

Also, has anyone bought one of those Smoke Buddies (http://www.ozbongs.com.au/Smoke-Buddy/)? I have made a smoke smell killer using activated carbon and a paper towel roll. I want to know if anyone has any experience with these? They look like they have about $3 worth of carbon in them. :/

  2. ^ I recently reached out to them after seeing it for the first time ever last week. Never saw it around here so I figured I'd get one and shoot a review on it. Hoping it works because my girls parents are coming to stay with us for 2 weeks.. & they aren't fond of me smoking as they are poorly uneducated about the plant.

I plan on educating them but I'm not going to push an issue if it is one, if they don't like it, Ill be in my room with the smoke buddy lmao.. that is, if it works.

Will let you know! Swing through my stash thread.

& here's a video to keep it all on topic.

  3. Nice going ECT, good to see this thread isn't quite dead. I'm keen to hear a review on these little bad boys. I can tell you now, it should work. I'm interested to see how long it last before it starts leaking some smells through.

Also keen on other methods for odor control.

  4. Just a quick update as well, cleaning this time.

My mate gave me a really nice bottle he found to see if I could make a bong out of it. The bottle was filthy with hard dirt stuck inside of it. It also had a very small spout so there was no way I could get it clean & swishing water around it did bugger all. So I raided my chemicals cupboard. All I had was bleach. Worth a shot?

I filled the bottle with lots of bleach & REALLY hot water & left it over night to soak. Next day, BAM! Aside from a little bit of residue from the label on the outside of the bottle it was spot less.

So, now for the test. I'v decided to give the green smoke away for the weekend (mostly because I want to get high again, not just mellow) so I took the chance to give both my main bongs a REALLY good soak. I removed all the rubber like the base and the grommets around the cone piece hole (not sure if rubber and bleach play well together, didn't want to run the risk) and left it all to soak last night (Friday). Come Sunday night I'm expecting to see some crystal clean glass just waiting to become filthy at the hands of me again.

I'll post an update & let y'all know how I go.

Anyone else got a nice trick to keeping your arsenal clean? Don't hold out, share your knowledge and you will win 10,000 interwebs!

  5. One last thing! Thanks to East Coast Toke for the nice little clip on cleaning. If this bleach thing doesn't work I'm gonna have to try the salt method... :)

  6. Salt and rubbing alcohol should work just fine, soak it for 30 minutes max and then just cover all holes and shake it paws, get that crystal clean glass in less than a hour.

Make sure you rinse the fuck outta all your pieces too, especially after using things from your 'chemical cupboard.

  7. Alright so the results are in.

Thinking of using bleach to clean your smoke ware? Well don't. Bleach is great at moving dirt etc but when it comes to weed resin, bleach is no match...

After 3 days of soaking I was left with a bong that was half spotless and half light green. The bleach turned all the resin (even the invisible stuff) into a green slim that won't come off.

I think I'll try the salt method next. It sounds like a winner...

And PS- I thoroughly washed all the chemicals off of my bongs before smoking from them. ;)

  8. It's SALT & RUBBING ALCOHOL

  9. Yeh... You know what I mean!!! :)

  10. i would discard that bong... bleach leaves residual chemicals behind... use hydrogen peroxide or vinegar

  11. I gave it a REALLY good rinse after the soak. Because its Pyrex glass it doesn't seem to have changed it.

I will be trying the peroxide method but it does look like someone has gone through all the steps and from what Iv seen here and on YouTube the way to go is salt and rubbing alcohol.

Thanks for the input... Keep those ideas coming!

  12. I gave all my big water bong a clean with IPA and salt and it worked really well. Only problem is it is $12 for 450ml in the chemists and $32 for 5L from a online store. This is all a bit pricey for me. But, I also tried using mentholated spirits and I got just as good results but for half the price.

I am so happy all my gear is so clean now.
Thanks for everyone who added to this thread. Keep posting if you see other stuff out there that might be relevant.

  13. I had to stare at "IPA" for about a minute before I realized you WEREN'T talking about India Pale Ale..........

I hope to god you mean ISO, as in isopropyl alcohol/isopropanol AKA rubbing alcohol, which is what you're supposed to be using.

$12 for 450ml? You need to go have another look around the 500mL bottles of ISO in my pharmacy are like $3.

  14. Haha. Sorry. I don't normally use acronyms but isopropanol is a mouthful. But yes, that's what I ment.

As for costing. I did find it for $30 delivered for 5ltrs but that's still a bit pricy. I can get a bulk pack of metho at bunnings for less.

I live in South Australia. I know in other parts of the world IPA is easier to get but here it's tricky because some people use it to make meth or ice or something.

  15. The bong should be fine as long as it's boro and I made a smoke buddy for a fraction of the cost the other day what you do is put dryer sheets into a cardboard tube add some carbon which can be found at wallmart or most pet stores for under $10 for a few pounds and than add more dryer sheets over it I swear this thus works so well and all together it was way under $1 to make

  16. This is working really well for me.

  17. The easiest way to keep things clean is to clean often. I give my girl a bath every night and go through less than 100ml of 90% iso a week. I use formula 420 plugs and course sea salt, then cut a little bit of extra hot water into the mix and shake it up for 10-15 seconds and rinse. Easy, cheap and I always have a clean smoke.
