Recently an exciting menagerie of collaborations has come into existence created by a very unique and special group of glassblowers. Each skilled in their own respective styles Gabe Haliday, scientific maestro Contrabasso and Ryan Fitt have come together in Corvallis, Oregon to work hand in hand sharing skills, techniques, and good times. One of the most exciting collaborations the crew made recently has to be their homage to the Wu-Tang clan, represented in a mini tube full of exotic techniques. Gabe's magnificently sculpted dragons head lie at the top of the tube, grabbing your attention when you first lay eyes on it. As you begin to scroll down the piece take note of the intricate snadblasting techniques preformed. Yellow applied under the black is brought to the surface using sandblasting, thus creating an entracing "scale" pattern as well as the Iconic Wu-Tang clan "W". The hand-made joint is masterfully inlayed seamlessly with wu-tang clan milles, a new and exciting technique paramount to this new teams style. The bottom of the mini tube is hand-drawn using the "flip disk" technique (see here for more info.) depicting the famous Mortal Combat dragon insignia backed by fading yellow to black. The back of the tube features a black sandblasted eyeball, another signature trinket of Basso, Halliday and Fitt. Fan of the Wu-Tang Clan or not it's easy to say this tube is inspiring. The showcasing of different techniques compiled with the fact the three artists are constantly and consciously collaborating heady-style pieces showcases a lot of talent, creativity and teamwork.
