Deep six , i flew one chopper off the fantail of a ship into the ocean on propose to make room for more incoming choppers . We were to evacuate 6000 to 7000 US personal or consultants out South Vietnam . Instead we evacuated 166.000 refugees against orders . Yes it was weird , when I came back to the states and allot of people didn't seem to know allot about it . But it was years after the fall of Saigon that i seen my parents again . I told my parents ,, and they really hadn't seen much of it on TV . I heard about the invasion December 22,,, 1974 the day before i graduated out boot camp . By December 24 th I was on my first ship and 30 minutes later my ship deployed on what was called west pak . I was home ported out off pearl . My ship was a Destroyer Escort ( Anti Sub ship , Sub tracker/destroyer ) .. I guess we stayed 60 miles or more off the coast of Vietnam . I don't really know , its not like i could ask where we were .
Sorry Dizzy I let my Licence Lapse...whatever you do stay off the Robinson R22 as they were built for training and are now used in general commercial work, IMO very unsafe the blades bends too easy I never met a Heli pilot with no sore back ...its part of the job German choppers are the best what you need is a jetpack ..lol
Yes we followed the production of the V22 with great interest, unforuntalty 6? crashes later and billions of dollars sunk, its old school now with little inventiveness around these days?
