so i had a downstem laying around (got it free) and i don't have a bong, so i jimmied out to the local headshop and grabbed a $15 bowl and whipped this thing up. haven't hit it yet (getting a 4th tomorrow, so i will then) but it tests pretty damn well. wondering what the community thinks about my first try at a homemade bong (glass-on-glass, btw).
will do. edit: also, thanks to anyone who has replied/does reply. i was just pretty stoked about my first try being successful and wanted to share with GC haha.
Very nice, although it does look like your going to need to put a lot of water in that so it reaches the stem, otherwise, probably one of cleanest pieces I've seen homemade. You rarely see glass homemades.
My friend and I are making glass bongs (like the OP posted) with all sorts of cool vases/flasks/pyrex tubes/etc... Should be a fun time, however we are going to find better shaped things to make them out of so the downstem goes at a better angle.
yeah, i was bummed that i couldn't get the downstem to reach any farther down, but it's an easy solve if i tilt the bong a little when i light it. i'm also thinking about making a stand for it so it will sit on an angle. maybe something out of wood, but i'm content to simply tilt it now. thanks everyone for the rep and the feedback! circumstances permitting, i should have a shot of it in action by tonight.
i actually used a Dremmel glass etcher. it's a slower process, but it allowed me to be pretty precise with how big and what shape the hole was. can't angle the stem any more without compromising the airtight seal. works just fine at about a 15 degree tilt.
