first homemade, straw perc and ice catcher

hey guys, first post on here, ive been looking at some other people's homemade stuff and came up with this.

i think i did a pretty nice job, and it works pretty awesome.

the green and black caps on the side are to allow filling and draining of water. the green cap needs to be re-done so there is no inner lip, it makes it hard to get all of the water out.

it has a slider, that is fully functional inside of a marker tube that i found to be perfect size to allow it to slide easily with no air leak.
the down tube is a vinyl tube from ace hardware.

a nice straw perc.

and the voss bottle on top is modified to hold ice.

the Rx bottle is mainly just for looks but, it works as a nice splash guard too. holes were drilled at the top of it close to the neck of the gatorade bottle.

took me quite some time to make it, but im a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to craftsmanship and creativity.. i can improve it more, ill add more to it and fix things as i see them.

im going to buy a glass piece sometime.. just waiting untill i find the right one.

 

yeah i was worried about it, but it actually doesnt get hot enough to get the casing hot.

the first time i used it i only put ice in the voss bottle, but earlier i added some in the bottom water too, to help cool the smoke even more to minimize the risk of plastic fumes and it worked great.
no bad taste to the pulls or anything.

ive also changed the bottom chamber cap opening on the side. ive put one closer to the bottom and was another sobe stem like the one on the perc.

smoke comes from the bottom chamber through the water, into the straws, and then through water once more.
its just an air tight 1-way valve pretty much.

if you make a perc out of straws make sure you dont make them to short or it will create a vacuum and drain the water from the perc chamber to the bottom.

making an edit, also here is the new bottom cap i replaced the green one with another sobe one. re sealed the hole from the old one and its cloer to the bottom for better cleaning and draining. also better to put ice in the larger opening.

 

the point of them is for cleaning. and its easier to put water and ice in. the perc cap obviously gets no ice, but its nice to use for filling so you dont need to keep tipping it or whatever...

little update on it, i made this inline ash catcher, got rid of the nylon tube because it was un-cleanable pretty much. and the ash catcher is able to be taken apart and cleaned.

im going to re-do it when i get the right kind of tubes and get rid of the marker tubes... i prolly wont smoke out of it with them on there i just wanted to see what i could do.

also went over some of the glue spots with some electrical tape for a better look.

ive made some updates since this.

removed the inline.. it was making way to much drag.
and took out the downstem and added a small sleve for the slide assembly to fit inside for a removable cleanable downstem assembly no pics yet ill take some

 

updating on this piece its changed a bit over time.. i haven't really used them much because i use my glass instead but its a nice work of art in my opinion just something nice to have laying around, even if it doesn't get used much.

the slide will fit in both of them you can see the downstem holder in the side of the bottles.





and here are my two glass pieces... they arent a good brand name or anything but they work just fine.
