Well it clears a lot faster, And I like it a lot better. It seemed like it had a lot of drag. I think I might get a smaller tube for the neck, and see if i can find a way to incorporate an ice pinch or something.
What material are you using for the tubes now? And I've used new/clean screws for an ice catcher before. Maybe toothpicks if you're looking to be able to add/remove them periodically. Lol
I was thinking about screws actually. Are there any kind of screw that isnt going to be damaged by the water vapor and warmth of the smoke? I'm using all plastic for the construction. Silicon cap on the end of the tube, and a plastic cap sealed to the end.
I use hot glue on all my homemades and i never have to reseal them, It should hold for a long long time. Sick job man! I really like it.
Thanks everyone! I also added an icecatcher now with some 3/4" screws, then sealed the tops of them with glue as well, to keep it air tight. I filled it up with ice today, and it hits really smooth and it felt like i froze my throat.
UPDATE Bored with the home made, so I revamped it. My friends were lazy as hell when hitting it, and wouldnt put forth the effort to hit it vertical, so it wouldnt ever diffuse right. I decided to make it a bent neck, and made the tube's bore smaller. The old tube was very wide, and was difficult to get a hard draw on. I also added a dome perc. One of my friends said "all it needs now is a perc.." And right after he left, I got to work. It was a GREAT idea, and works flawlessly. Maintenance on this has sucked, but that was because of me being dumb when gluing it together,
if your having adhesion problems with hot glue on plastics you should lightly scuff the area your going to apply the glue to. you can achieve that using some sandpaper, scotch brite pad, or any kind of abrasive material. Making scratches on the part gives glue or any kind of adhesive material, including paint, a "mechanical tooth" to bond to. I have made plenty of homemade bongs and i always use hot glue. In the beginning i used to always have the same problem but i remembered that before painting anything it always goes through sanding stages. So after i used that method hot glued pieces last a very long time. Recently ive been using Silicone caulk instead of hot glue, which you can pick up at any home improvement store, and it works wonders and it looks cleaner when its done right
Thanks man. I had some silicon in a tube that I used to seal the big cap on the end of clear tube, but it wouldnt joint things together, and just made a sticky mess. I'll go grab some silicon caulk whenever it needs to be fixed again
I've scuffed it multiple times and crossed the scuffing, it works much better, yes, but still wont permanently hold them together. Water always manages to find a hole, somewhere. Now it just takes a few days for a leak to develop, then get bigger, it used to be nightly.
