  1. So has anyone made them yet? :D

    Doesn't take much making =o.

They have the Herb Iron, whose official use is lighting herb ;]

But for cheap, you can get a Hakko Model (I have the 454 for only 30 bucks) and I took off the metal heating element to reveal the ceramic one underneath. Simple as that!

You get far more potent, better tasting smoke with it.

  3. Right you are Heo. Well then let me be the first to say, I have done it. Check my signature before you get get a big soldering iron.

Haha yeah, you told me in another thread, only just realized you were OP of this one =p. You obviously already know everything I said then, but excited to see you offering a cheaper version. I'm happy with my Hakko for now for my combustion purposes, but for the price I have friends who'd be interested in yours for sure.

  5. Right on dude, yeah I recognized you I'm just puttin it out there for everyone. I didn't have a thread in this forum and It was really slow so I put this up, didn't think anyone had done this yet.

  6. post a non-biased review on your product showcasing the differences between your product and say a hakko. I've been in the market for a ceramic tipped heating iron and the price seems right on yours but you get what you pay for. Prove to me you have a safe and quality product and I'll buy it, I probably wont be the only one either.

  7. Challenge accepted. Thanks for the feedback - Standby

  8. Yeah, it'd be important to show you could hold up in durability and longevity of the heating element against the Hakko, then you'd be pretty golden.

Because the only downside of the Hakko compared to the Herb Iron is possibly customer service. Seeing as yours is cheaper than the Hakko, and is meant for our purposes, I envision good things if it's as quality.

I have been testing this element a lot. I abuse the shit out of it and it's still like brand new 7 months later. I clean my steamroller with it, scraping the sides, still perfectly smooth ceramic. When I'm in the room I will leave it on all day, over and over. It just doesn't mind - it's self regulating and I don't think the Nichrome wire inside will be disappearing within the next 5 years - it doesn't seem to be able to burn out. They're not too expensive either. I bet the only time these babies will go out is when snapped or dropped without the cap. Without revealing my sources, let me just say that my element is just about the exact same thing Hakko uses. For real.

I intend to make it ever evolving into the highest quality product it can be. You guys ask, and I will incorporate it into the saber.

  10. add a button maybe as an option as some people dont like them and a metal sleeve around the bottom of the ceramic wand to add stability

also idk if this is possible but if you could move the glowing red hot part all the way to the tip of the ceramic instead of being 1/4 inch or so down that would be ideal

its a great start and the price is amazing i see good things to come from this

It's sounding better and better. Things to improve it would be a switch or even better a temperature knob. Making a useful stand or cover for it wouldn't be a bad idea either.

  12. As we add features, we add cost. So sayeth the $25 torch tool!

    Staying tuned.... ;)

    (Yeah, I'm high :bongin:)

True, but id pay like 50 for a temp controlled one

  14. i'd pay $50 for a temp controlled one with either an on and off switch or button.

  15. Price will remain as low as I can afford, ain't no capitalist here. Parts don't cost much.

See a vid of it in action:

  16. Looks pretty cool! I already have a Hakko and it works great, but I'll keep yours in mind just in case.

What would reeeeeaaaallly be cool is a CORDLESS version with a rechargeable battery!

  17. On/off switch would be nice as someone said. Right now im using a surge protector, haha. Have you seen the hakko presto 20w/130w? I have it and love it. The 20w is nice for oil and wax, and the drive upwards in heat, by pressing a button, with 130w is nice to finish oil/wax and burning bowls. If you incorporate something like that onto your ceramic, you'll hit two markets, just sayin :smoke:

  18. This is so sick man, i hate it wen my lighter doesnt wrk wen i realy wana blaze, this is perfect.

  19. Metal sleeve for stability, alright thanks for the feedback, noted. But keep in mind if the sleeve is too tight, it will make the element snap off easily. Right now it has a little bit of play but is solid when you're touching it to the bowl. I've been thinking a glass sleeve would do nice and super safety proof it. Once I find my glassblower that will happen.

And thanks for the feedback everyone. Mini dimmer, on off switch, vape/burn switch, power connector at base of unit, stand/case, and a cap is on the way.

  20. im sure you have seen the herb iron the metal sleeve on it is a tiny bit larger than the ceramic to give it the play your talking about but not enough to make it easily breakable if you haven't seen this up close i can take a pic of it for you

making it out of glass is not a bad idea if it can be as precise as metal i think that might be difficult
